    I'm Having Trouble Keeping Up

I wish someone would have convinced me 23 years ago that W748 was the best powder for my 223 varmint rifle. I eventually got there on my own, but.... I suspect there is that "one" powder for nearly every cartridge/bullet combo (like H110 with 265gr bullets in the 44 Mag).

    Chukar hunting/ EMERGENCY ROOM

Thanks guys... I've only ever hunted chukars a couple of times like salmonchaser did. It's a young man's sport. The chukar photo was taken through our kitchen window.... Who'd a guessed? He hung around our wild bird feeder for a few days then disappeared. I hear chukar kabobs w/chipotle barbeque...

    Kimber .22 conversion kits

I bought an aftermarket 22 conversion for the 1911 some years ago. I couldn't bring myself to actually install it in my Kimber. I sold the kit without ever trying it. I did buy a Browning Buck Mark though... I agree with those that having a dedicated 22 is a good choice...

Remmington automatics failure to extract..possible cuases..

I tried shooting some NATO ammo in a 308 7400 I owned once. Bad idea... Nearly every rim was torn off and there was evidence of high pressure. After a few rounds of that, I had the entire mechanism of the action polished, and then loaded some sensible moderate pressure ammo using a small base...

Ruger Gun sight rifle in 308

They shoot very well indeed. It's a sub 1" gun with handloads and a good shot. Light easy to carry for younger shooters. The magazine makes it easy to unload for vehicle travel. Bought the composite 5 rounder for hunting.

    Touching the lands

The mark on the bullet may be nothing. I didn't see where you posted what brand of rifle this is, but many of them use an ejector that exerts pressure on one side of the brass case, so the spent cartridge will pop out of the loading window when the bolt is moved rearward. This side pressure on...

    .223 ammo restriction

I heard from a local ammo maker that they have till about mid March to ship any 223 ammo made with green tip bullets. After mid March, they cannot produce ammo with those bullets. All other 223 ammo is unaffected. Retailers can continue selling green tip 223 ammo after that date.

    Tactical invasion

The tactical look created a marketing opportunity for manufacturers, and did provide new enthusiasm in what had been a pretty traditional market. The tactical look also, I think, appeals more-so to the younger among us. The downside has been that manufacturers can push cheap plastic stocks and...

    EPA cannot regulate lead ammo

Leaded gasoline was a problem for both wildlife and humans, and I suspect for the Condors back in the day. Removing the lead from gas was a good thing. Just imagine the atmospheric lead levels east of LA back then. Waterfowl suffering from lead poisoning in/around wildlife refuges was a...

7 Rem. Mag. vs 300 Win Mag.

I hunted elk with a 300 Weatherby for more than 2 decades. With time I grew really-really tired of the recoil. It was replaced with a 7RM.

    Daughter Draws 2 Antelope Permits

Did some field practice yesterday. Daughter shot a couple of 1.5 to 2" 3-shot groups at 100 yards from the sitting position with a shooting stick, and she shot a couple of 5-6" groups from the unsupported standing position (as shown). She's shot hundreds of rounds of 223 from the bench and a...

    Daughter Draws 2 Antelope Permits

Thanks for everyone's comments. I'll be sure to post pics once the hunt is over. The ranch had several hundred antelope on their property last year, and there aren't that many tags issued for the entire area. It's amazing that she drew both a buck and a doe tag (which arrived yesterday, by the way).
