Have a friend that is wanting to build a 300 rum with no longer than a 24” barrel. Any of you guys running one with a barrel that short? What velocities are you getting and would you do it again?
Took advantage of some black Friday sales and now have the parts to build a 30 nosler on the way. Any of you guys running one and if so what are your favorite loads?
Went out to do chores and this guy was creeping across a block management stubble field. Told myself even though he wasn’t what I was looking for that if he was still there after I was done doing chores I’d make a move on him since it was the last day I’d get to deer hunt this year. Sure...
The wife got her cow yesterday evening. One shot 250 yards 6.5-06 140 grain berger. She hit the cow slightly quartering away. Bullet broke rib on entree and went through lungs and came to rest against the hide on opposite side just behind the shoulder crease.\
the berger retained 56% of its...
Got out this week and found a cow to tag. Popped over the ridge and the herd of cows was 287 yards away. Hit this cow behind the shoulder and she started running quartering away so I hit her again with the 280 Ackley shooting 168 grain LRAB. First bullet took out ribs on entrance and exit left...

We had a great Montana antelope opener this year. Wife and I each ended up with buck and doe tags in the draw. We filled all 4 tags opening day. Wife got this buck with her 6.5-06 shooting 142 grain lrab right at 200 yards.
I would like to try to keep it 7lbs and under scope and all. I know that is going to be a challenge. Its going to be my muledeer and elk rifle. Im either going to shoot 140 grain accubonds or 160 grain accubonds.
Im planning to build a 280 ackley with a remington 700 action. Im planning to have a Shilen #1 contour 22 inch barrel screwed on and stock it with a McMillan edge stock. How much will this setup weigh do you think? Do you think a #1 contour barrel is to small?
It would be for antelope, deer, and elk every year and moose, sheep, and bears VERY rarely as drawing tags for moose and sheep in montana is very tough.
I am going to be having a custom rifle built in either 280 ackley or 338-06 for all north american game besides brown bear. Which caliber would you choose and why? What would you have done to the rifle? The rifle im building off of is a remington model 700 sps stainless. Im thinking about...
