So it’s adjusted enough to use. I think I’m going to send it back to Leupold as I’m having trouble getting crisp images. My vision is 20/30 now, so not like 20 years ago when I was 20/15…but the adjustment isn’t working well. Also seeing a double vertical line..very close together.
Thank you...
Very nice Tom! Congratulations!
We’re seeing less Toms in my part of Michigan. I probably need to go kill one this weekend… if I can find one.
Last one I took in 2019 with a 20 gauge.
Very nice looking call. Never saw a copper slate. Is that what you call it?
Assume you stroke it like a slate…
I see you have a cross hatch is that 90 degrees or a different angle?
Happy hunting
Jim’s advice is solid. I spent some time watching videos of NWTF championships.
This 12 yo girl, took a paddle box call, cupped it in one hand and struck it with her palm. Gave a unique yelp. I turned two Toms following a hen away from me at 170 yards… I got one close enough and harvested...
I had a bunch of mixed head stamps that I sorted into Super-X, R&P, and win.
So initial ladder was with Super-x(old cases).
Since then, a Starline Order came in and the speeds matched the SuperX. All the mixed headstamps are set aside and will probably get dropped off at the range for others...
Well guys, thank you! I have to say, the RL17 TTSX was one of the easiest load work ups I have done. First loads with SD in the 2-3 fps range…
Started with Barnes book for seating depth.
Didn’t have the modified case to check lands, but after getting that.. went on to using Barnes recommended...
Had a friend call before rifle season opened in a panic because he couldn’t find 257 Bob, and was asking if I could hand load for him…never did find brass, but eventually scheels had an ammo sale and I caught them with 257 Bob with SST’s… so bought 6 boxes. Told him to not pitch the brass next...
So since 54.1 and 54.4 had SD’s of 2&3, decided to Trt one more step,
Results from 54.7
3150
3135
3143
Ave 3142, SD 7 and ES 15
Will load up seating test at 54.4 RL17.
Just a quick update.
Extended the ladder test. 130gn SGK, H4831, Seated 0.020” off the lands. Prior test it was close to 0.140” off the lands
59.0 - 2911
59.3 - 2951
59.6 - 2980
59.9 - 2996
60.2 - 2989
60.5 - 3044
60.8 - 3051
No heavy lift. No pressure signs on primers or head stamps

I do have some RL22. Going to push the H4831 a bit harder and change to starline brass.. ladder test loading up. RL 17 looking very promising at 54.1-54.4. Right at 3100 at very consistent V.
Right now RL17, Norma and Barnes TTSX
h4831, starline and SGK.
If I get that Starline SGK...
3.217 is running about 1.25”. I’m about 0.140 off the lands. So long ways from the minimum recommended 0.050”
I’ll run up to the store tonight to see if I can pick up a box or two.
So I measured distance to the lands with the TTSX and got 3.355”. My test loads were 3.217. Barnes recommends min 0.050” jump,
So I’d start at 3.305, 3.295 3.285, 3.275, 3.265, 3.255, which would cover 0.050-0.100” off lands, is there merit I going further? Trying to not run out of TTSX just...
