I have a 338-06 Cooper that I received this past fall. I chose a 338-06 over a 338 win mag because I hate recoil and muzzle breaks. The 338 win mag is the standard Alaskan's choice but leave it to me to be different. So far, I have been very happy but have only taken deer. No luck on the...
After a long wait, My Cooper Jackson Hunter 338-06 is being shipped. Looking forward to using it this fall. Now to decide what scope will sit on top. Those of you with 338-06 rifles, what bullet do you like to use? I am starting with the 210g PT.

I have to agree with nitis. I would like to see a tipped PT. I do not like how the tip mashes flat in the magazine from recoil. They also flatten when chambered too many times. It may or may not effect accuracy but I hate the look of the blunt tip.

I finally got around to ordering ammo. I went with the old standard PT's over the AB's. I have had good luck with the PT in the past. I also like the 210gr. bullet over the 200 and 225. I am sure all of he above would have worked fine.

1) 22LR. Everyone's favorite plinker.
2) 270 Win. My longer range, easy shooting, versatile rifle.
3) 45-70 Marlin-stainless. My favorite bear protection. I might add this is not
my choice for hunting bear but when hiking and fishing in think cover, this
is the gun I want to...
The 45-70 is my favorite gun when I am in thick bear cover. One of my friends is alive because he was able to get enough "quick" rounds off shooting from the hip. It is also the only gun my wife will carry while working on the rivers. She is a lefty and not comfortable shooting a bolt action...
Thanks everyone good advice from all. The logistics of getting just about anything here where I live is a bit tiresome sometimes. So ammo as well as powder takes some planning. I will start with some custom factory loads then look into buying the minimal equipment. There is a lot of hand...
While I was hunting around for factory loads for my 338-06 I noticed that both Weatherby and Nosler both make "custom" factory loads for the 338-06.
Weatherby claims with a 210gr PT, to have a muzzle velocity of 2750 and muzzle energy of 3527. Nosler claims with the same bullet a 210 PT, to...
