    Nosler Published Load Data

Probably a stupid question but when I look at the different loads, there is an asterix "*" next to one of the loads but I see no explanation anywhere. Most accurate maybe? It is not in a particular load IE: max load, it can be in any of the loads for a particular bullet. Example...

    Smokeless Muzzleloaders

A lot depends on the wording. If it is written by the "buckskin" crowd then the law will probably be written for them and not very inclusive. ( you know the type, the ones that wanted to prevent compound bows and releases, etc. ) If it is written by hunters then it normally needs to be loaded...

    Berger VLD

To avoid a problem in this thread, if you shoot archery then almost any bullet will work. When I use fragile bullets I use them as if I were archery hunting. I would never take a rear end shot through the ham with archery gear and I would not with a Berger either, perhaps not with an Accubond...

8mm 200 grain competition boat tails

It is a custom 45 caliber smokeless muzzleloader with about 87 grains of powder...the sabot weighs another 30 grains. edge.

    Smokeless Muzzleloaders

Is he the guy that took over Richards Custom? I think somewhere near Smith Mountain Lake. edge.

8mm 200 grain competition boat tails

A bit late, but I had one kill using it. I shot a doe at just 105 yards. MV about 3100fps. At the shot all the deer run deeper into our property but nothing is on the ground and nothing falls within my view!! All the deer are gone so I get down and walk to where she last was walking in case...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

You may be 100% right. If you are right then no bullet will work, and that is why I need to know what the minimum twist would be! IMO zero is not low from a polymer standpoint. I could switch to delrin but it has not been as accurate for me. edge.

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

It would require a brake  It would be no problem to get 3k fps in a 45 caliber. I have shot the 250 grain over 2900 and add a 30 grain sabot it gets near the point you want a brake. A 14 pound rifle makes it not too bad, but a dedicated rifle for a 300 grainer might need to revisit the...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

I agree 100% BUT the problem is that was shot at about 40 degrees and it was sub moa. When I shot it last year at a much lower temperature I could not hit a 4 foot target at 100 yards! That is the reason for this thread! I just don't know if it is: not stable @ zero degrees; sabot failure...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

Doug's yes :) The base is very heavy and generally ends up 50 or more yards downrange. The petals are concave in the front so in theory they peel away almost instantly. If I don't machine the reliefs in the sabot below the bullet base the accuracy is hurt, so when designed properly they do not...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

I would be remiss if I did not note that the following year I switched to the 150 AB. Since I fire my load out at the end of each day, one day I shot the AB at a tree from about 30 yards and the impact was easily over 3k fps. I saw that the bullet exited and was lodged less than 1 inch into a...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

A lot of good stuff to think about :) The sabot breaks off as it leaves the muzzle, so the weight of the sabot itself should not be an issue. The season before I started with the AB I used the 150 SST and it was very accurate. It seems the more I practice for long range the shorter the distance...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

I built it myself with a Shilen .458 1:14 twist barrel on a Savage 110 action. No barrel nut and a 1.24 diameter. I machine my own sabots. Since having the problem with the Accubond I switched to the Custom Comp 8 mm 200 grain bullet under 87.5 grains of smokeless powder. Here were the...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

Depending on which load I use it is somewhere between 3,000 and 3,200 fps. 3k as a minimum is fair and leave me plenty of margin for error. edge.

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

Thank you, and you may be correct. Down to 30 degrees they shoot excellent in my 1:14 twist...well sub moa. Down between zero and 10 my accuracy went away, I mean completely away! I shoot these in a muzzleloader and the reason for the question is am I losing accuracy due to: too slow of a...

    Twist for 150 Accubond?

Does anyone know the "Real" twist rate needed for the 30 caliber 150 grain Accubond? The conditions would be zero degrees F, sea level and about 30 in Hg. I am not looking for Greenhill or Miller which do NOT take into account the specific gravity. ( for instance Berger requires a 14 twist but...

    338 Lapua range time

Really nice setup :) A couple of questions. Did you chrono? If so what were the results? How full is that case with the H1000? And have you done any barrel cleaning? I'll be interested in where you end up on your loads. edge.

    Berger VLD bullets

You seem to be either mistaken or are lying! I never pushed the Berger, and CLEARLY stated I was shooting NOSLERs FROM THE BEGINING! You either can't read or lie which is it? edge. Here is my VERY first post on this topic! I have been shooting the Nosler Custom Competition 8mm 200 grain...
