I have 1,000 of these bullets to play with, now I need some starting loads. This bullet isn't listed in my #5 manual but the 185 Sporting Handgun bullet is. The Nosler website ends up on rifle bullets from the handgun link (???). Can I safely substitute the loads in my book for these bullets? I have Power Pistol, Titegroup, W231, and Bullseye powders

You can use the 185 Sporting Handgun bullet load data for the
185 gr Custom Competition bullet. Just remember to start low
and work up.

JD338, thanks for the confirmation. Shot a few yesterday and getting ready to load up 300 tonight. Lots of work with a single stage press. Bought them from a guy at work who got them from MidWayUSA but never got around to loading them. I'm going to use them for plinking.

I have very good results in my Colt ser 70 gov with the NOSCC45185 JHP with 6.2gr of W-231 and WLP or 6.5gr W-231 and Fed 150 C.O.L. 1.206 with a very slight crimp, to much taper crimp will begin to deform the nose of the bullet giving inconsistent seating.

Jibjab, the primer makes that big of a difference with the W231? Did you chrono the different loads?

WLP's are magnum/Lg pistol primers, I haven't clocked these loads but when I sub WLP for upper end loads worked up with a standard large primers I will back the charge off a bit.
