.35 Whelen

The Jackson Hunter is a handsome rifle. I'm slowly forgiving Cooper rifles after the founder supported Obama way back during his first run. I'm trying not to hold a grudge, and the product is superb.
I couldn't believe it either Mike.
I suppose they have lost a lost of customers.
But the good news is that Jay from Pac Nor called me this afternoon
took the time to answer every question I had, and I will be sending
my 700 Action to them to rebarrel to the.35.
The cost is about 600$, I already have a new 700 Long Range that will be
the donor I am going with the same Varmint profile @ 24". A new Coop is
2200$, I believe they use a 1:10 twist and that option is available thru Pac Nor
but I am going 1:12, with the heavy profile barrel it will be an unusual build.
I planning on a VX6 30MM 1-6x24 with fixed Talleys.
As usual the optics cost is as much as the total build.
It should fall about 2K..

A 12 twist will serve you quite well. That is the twist on my Whelen. It does help stabilise 180 grain Swift A-Frames, but it isn't really necessary for 250 grain of lighter. Sounds as if you are well on your way to a fine rifle.

Good for you Skidmark I am looking forward to updates along with photos once it is done !

Blessings,
Dan

Sounds like a cool build, I would say my Whelen is one of my most accurate rifles in the safe. Just a great cartridge for hunting in my opinion. Really makes good use of a 30-06 case.
