I know long range rim fire shooting is becoming popular, they even have a 200 yard competition at the local gun club. There are some specialty rim fire rifles and scopes out for this nitch market
Well I have been thinking about it and talked to Remingtonman25-06 about it. So after shooting at the farm, I decided to give it a try.
I have a Remington M541T-HB 22 Long Rifle rifle and quick mounted an old VXII 3-9x40mm on it. I got a quick zero at 30 yards and then went to 100 yard (white) gong. The Remington Thunderbolt ammo shoot pretty good!
I decided to try for my 250 yard (yellow) gong and walked the bullets up using Kentucky windage. A handy overhanging branch for a reference made hits easy. This was a blast. Sue came out to the barn, with a fresh box of ammo and started off at 100 yards with 10 consecutive hits. Then she went to the 250 yard gong. After getting the Kentucky windage figured out, she was also consistently hitting the gong!
Looks like I need to get another scope with dials.
I think my brick of Thunderbolts won't last long.

22's are such a hoot!

And yes, they can be pushed out to 200 - 300 yards... Takes plenty of "Kentucky Windage" as JD 338 says. :)

I like practicing with my Marlin at 100 yards, standing. Lots of fun.

we set up a range out to 450 yards , with a steel plate at every 50 yards . I just built 2 wooden target stands for 100 and 200 yards , I placed them this past Friday . the guys wanted this mainly for rimfire shooting .I'm building a bench to sit on , and this range is done . I've never tried to shoot a 22 rimfire past 100 yards ,but it looks like fun

I love shooting my rimfire trainer out to 400 yards. I’ve found cci standard velocity is the best bang for your buck.

My LR 22 is a tikka T1x in a bravo chassis with a usoptics TS- 12.

Anything over 200 yards it’s very difficult to hear the impacts on steel even when shooting suppressed. I have some very lightweight steel 6” swingers I got just for the rimfire. Beyond 200 yard a sawhorse with close line clips holding clay pigeons work much better as you can see when they break.

I'm getting a little more serious about glass.
I swapped out scopes and the Remington M541 is now sporting a VXII 4-12x40mm scope with target turrets, the same scope it wore for many years.
The Savage M93 22 Win Mag now has the VXII 3-9x40mm.
Need to get both zeroed.

Looks like a good time Jim!

Still waiting for my CZ at the smiths to get the Bartlein barrel and new stock bedded. Then I'll mount up the Area419 30 MOA base and Vortex 5-25x Venom. Have some SK standard, Norma Tac X, CCI SV, and Federal Target to try for mid tier ammo. Hoping to get some 400 and 500 yard hits on video soon!

Took the KIDD 10/22 out today and tried some of the Norma Tac X ammo at 50 (15 shot group) and 100 (5 shot group.) I think they'll work ok. Always nice to have a few types of good shooting 22 ammo around.

Its been a lot of fun getting into the LR 22 game. The wife even likes it and took over the 10/22, so I guess thats a plus haha.

Shooting 22lr at distance is a hoot. Good for you!
I have a couple of clone Chargers, I have shot one to 500 yards on steel, ad the other one has 450 yards.
Killed a pd so far out to 330 yards with it.

yesterday , I got things pretty well straightened out around the shooting table . this morning I took the bench out . when we have a tractor up there again I'll get a few buckets of gravel spread around ,to better smooth things out. I'm going to build a booster seat to fit on top of the bench , so the shorter shooters can get more comfortable .

Looking good Jim

You guys are bringing back childhood memories.
I bought one of the first Ruger 1022s when the first came out for $50 and the first thing I did was to put a 1" center fire rifle scope on it.
That little rifle helped me kill more ground hogs at ranges over 100yds than any gun that was available to me at that time.
Kind of wish I still had it, but I still own its replacement that I traded it for.

If you have a Rural King close by, they sell an adjustable padded stool that the range I belong to uses at the benches. We cut 5-6 ins off the legs, and it works perfect for all sizes of shooters. When not in use slide in under the bench out of the weather and way. Just throwing it out there. Dan.
