Good luck.
My first impression is I like it.
88's @ 2910 and good groups.
Got to 2999fps with a 10 shot average but the groups opened up some.
Also need more work with the 90's but don't have time before my next 600yd match at the end of the month.
I did find it strange that the POI seemed...
Made a range trip with SB6.5, 22 Nosler, 88ELD, and 90SMK.
For the loads I took the 88 did better. Will need more work though.
88's @ about 2900 did better than @ 3000.
At 100yds the SB6.5 did better than my normal 88 IMR4350.
Here's a pic of the targets.
88-IMR, 88-SB6.5 3 loads...
I looked over the published data (Winchester RDC) and seems pretty ho-hum for some calibers but looks interesting for my 22 Nosler with heavies.
I still haven't made it out to 1000yds with my 22N but a little more speed (if precise) with a little less pressure than IMR4350 I'm using @ 600 might...
Don't know if I will make it to the local range next weekend to try this out
(the flooding is going down)
But the forth Saturday of the month is 600 day in Pascagoula.
Guess it will be dryfire practice until then through the front door cat hole :)
Received a box of 250 22N Dogtown brass from Midway.
Sorting out some for my next match I ran across one that was way out of line. 6.8 grains heavier than the rest.
Looks like Nosler made an Oops.
Is this on purpose maybe???
So far just this one.
---checked the whole box, just this one case.
Thanks Guy(s) :)
I could hardly believe the first 99 then another.
Wind wasn't bad but there was wind.
I think I'm going to stay with a bipod and give up on the rest.
Just not the one I used last match.
I think the AR needs a more rigid support than a bag in a rest.
I try and adjust...
Received my MidRange Sharpshooter card :)
Have made two more 600yd matches at Pascagoula.
Both with 88ELDs.
In January I learned about switching wind from behind.
Left/Right, man that was tough for a noob.
The strings were 96-2, 97-2, 97-1, 98-4, 97-2, 96-1.
A personal best.
Did the Feb...
One last 2018 post about the 22N before it becomes obsolete in 2019 :)
Took the 450 prone shoot in Florida, again.
Wasn't real proud of the group so no pics.
Did some more load work, this time with a 28" X-Caliber, 1:7 5R Bull.
No gas port.
On the left side of this pic at 100 yards are...
Did another Jump Test (#3) with the 80ELD-M and have decided I will load around 0.030" off. With the trip to South Florida coming up I don't have the time to do much more than sight in and practice.
Have to get the SKS and the 91/30 out and take a few shots, and take the weight off the...
Ordered and received a second .223 collet die to keep for .223 cases.
Shaved close to 0.030" from the bottom of the collet piece of the old die.
Then the die wouldn't size 22N cases, or necked down Hagar cases.
The mandrel was bottoming out on the case web keeping the die from pushing...
Head space sizing will likely help delay case head separation.
Annealing not so much as you don't anneal down there.
I feel (opinion :) ) that squeezing the neck down in a full length die then drawing the mandrel back out exercises the neck area more than anywhere else on the case. Neck...
Here's what the 223 collet die does with a 22N case.
I used a 1.770" long case and have about 0.030" remaining length in the top of the die.
A 1.760" case would have about 0.040" but shaving 0.030" off the bottom of the collet would be best, just in case you ran a max length case through it...
Weight vs volume is a heated topic.
The powder manufacturers produce the powder to a controlled volume.
Large ammo makers run process control and quality sampling programs to fine tune the process. When they offer various grades of the same round then I would suspect that the lower priced...
Reviving an old thread with a question or two and a few comments.
Question :)
Has anyone tried sizing with a body die (RCBS or Redding) and neck sizing with a Lee Collet die for 22N reloads?
Lee will make a custom collet die ($$) but it looks like you can accomplish the same with the .223...
Back to report some more on Nosler's red headed step child :)
Over the past couple range trips I have found the following:
CFE223 works for the 'Lighter' 70RDF and 75AMAX, but for heavier bullets, a slower powder like IMR 4350 is better. I found a pretty good spot running 2980fps (80ELD) from a...
Heads up for a sale.
Midway has some 22N ammo on Clearance.
My past experience with their clearance ammo has been hit or miss.
22N 62gr old stock wit the sharp edges is my latest.
Chucked and beveled they are fine, just extra labor, but the price was right.
Now they have the 77grain CC, 70gr...
