Caught some gigantic carp out of Lake Michigan at the Nuc plant discharge in the spring. Now this was probably 45 years ago but they were in the 20 - 30+ range. One or two to get it out of your system then back to trout fishing.
We call them “Chickens “ over here in Idaho. Back in Northern Minnesota we called them Partridge. In Wisconsin everyone just called them Grouse.
By any name I still grab out 4 or 5 each season on the good years and on a bed of wild rice they sure are good.
The handful of deer with the 90, shoulders would find bullet in offside hide. Ribs would pass thru. I still load the 90AB for a buddy and he shoots whitetail and cow elk with that bullet.
I said this before- My go to is the 95BT and I load 100PT for my wife. Very satisfied with results. Our experience with the 90BT has been the same. Congrats
Reading thru this has got that itch started again. I have / had most modern cartridges but never a .308Win. I’ve got a Sav99 in a 300 Sav. That’s as close as I’ve got. I’ve been looking at 308s for years now but with a few 300WSMs laying around I couldn’t justify buying one. A good buddy of...
I had one - I would not shoot that gun with out hearing protection!
Outside of that, I had purchased it for same reason.
I sold it and carry a Glock 20 when I feel the need in the mountains of ID,
Ok I didn't wait quite a month. I ordered the Xero today. Already grabbed a case from Amazon so it's here already. I have Some 124 HH coming to load up in my 6.5x284 so I will be using it right out of the box.
We used to fish for “Lakers” in Lake Superior and Lake Michigan back in the ‘70s and’80s. Some of the best eating came from Ontario- Manitou Lake if I remember correctly. Fly in 1st week of May for ice out fishing.
Been many years since I’ve had some….
I had a 270WSM in a Sako 75 Finnlight.
My load was RL22 with 150 PT at just under 3000 fps. Good brasslife and less the moa. Lots of Elk and Whitetail with that load.
If it’s bigger then a Whitetail then I load AB or PT. I have not loaded any A Frames due to being satisfied with what I have. Never read a bad comment on them. That’s says something.
You’re using a good bullet. I haven’t had any problems with a few bolt guns and this bullet. I haven’t used 4350 in my 243s.
If you measure the Winchester ammo can you get close to the “jump” with the 90gn?
With a Cow tag in hand this season I’ll stick with my Ridgeline / Zeiss in a 6.5x284 Norma shooting 140gn PT. Whitetail and a cow elk, that’s the easy button. I have a 28N that is still new that needs to “unwrapped” and a
load developed for it. It’s a time thing. Finishing my sons house...
I picked up a CO -AX press a couple years ago. I finished organizing what is to become my reloading room last weekend. I setup that press and put out a box of 50 of a known load for my 6.5x284 and another 50 of 243W. I still have the Rock Chucker but bench space is a premium, so I don’t think...
All restrictions have been lifted today on the Texas Ridge Fire. Spent some time looking it over and helping neighbor getting things back to a normal state.
Will stay careful until the fall rains!
I’m waiting for a few more “Cabelas” bucks and with a couple gift cards I should have a Garmin on its way in a month or so. Looking forward to the ease of use.
Re reading thru this has got me thinking also about Elk shot at what ranges. When I lived in western WA, 1 bull at 75 yds with 7mm RM and the rest were all muzzleloader kills , probably 5 or 6 cows and small raghorns. Been in ID since 2003 and been eating elk every year except 2 while...
