I used the 61.5 gr of Retumbo with the 170 gr Ballistic Tip load from earlier in this thread to take this beautiful bull on Monday evening. The details of the hunt are in the 2024 Hunting thread. The rifle is off to a great start!
Some of you may remember that my wife and I moved this last spring from the Skeena valley down to the southern interior near Shuswap lake. We are able to get a shared moose draw near our new home.
A new friend from church took me to a place where there are quite a few moose and we were able to...
I tried IMR 3031, IMR 8208 and H 4895 in the 358 Win with 200's, IMR 3031 was best for me. I would just try the powders you have mentioned already and you'll probably find something good. H 4198 sounds like an excellent option. I liked the 200 gr Sierra best and took one bear with them. Any of...
Hope you keep us up to date. Haven't tried the Hammer's yet but have heard great things about them.
I just moved from the Skeena valley this spring to the Shuswap. Just starting to explore this new area now.
Too bad about the moose draw, hopefully next time they will cooperate. Hopefully you...
Welcome from another BC boy and 6.8 Western shooter. Nosler doesn't have any data that I'm aware of but Hodgdon does as I'm sure you are aware. They have 165 gr ABLR data but for the 170 gr Ballistic Tip I've worked up slowly using their data for the 170 gr Berger and 175 gr Sierra TGK. In my...
That's a good start. You should be able to get a fair bit more speed. From what I have read it looks like you won't get as much speed with H 4831 sc as the slower burning powders but the accuracy is usually excellent. I'll have to try it in mine with the 170 gr BT.
Welcome. I haven't used that exact combination but I'm sure others here have. I believe they are usually tougher than that and it may just have been an anomaly.
I know this is a 220 gr Sierra thread but at the other end a 160 gr Barnes TTSX at 3300 fps+ would be an interesting load. I never got to try them when I had my 325 and wish I would have. Hopefully I'll find another lefty 325 one day or maybe a Browning BLR.
Welcome. Those 200 gr Accubond's are a great bullet. The heavy 220 gr Sierra's should be awesome out of your new 325 as well. Please let us know how it works out for you.
That's a beauty of a rifle, someone is going to get an awesome gun.
Never understood left handers using RH rifles. Much better using a gun that's properly set up. In the event of a blown primer you'll be much better protected too. I had that happen with a RH gun and got some gas and debris in...
