I had the Long Ranger in 6.5 Creedmoor and couldn’t get less than 1.5” with any factory ammo. Didn’t reload centerfire rifle at the time so I sold it. They’re a finicky rifle from what I gather.
Great rifles. Uncle owned a couple in 7 Rem Mag and 30-06. Played with another at the range when some new-to-hunting guy was having fits sighting his in. I think it was a 7 mag in that one too.
As is the case with Hammers, shedding petals is great. It'll just make the petals rip through more tissue in tangent paths to the main shank, which means more damage inside than just the straight punch that it'd do if it stayed together.
