I will throw out what I believe to be the culprit in your seating process...at least a good chance. I have a feeling that the seating stem in your die is not a match to that profile of that bullet. I would check very closely and see if the tip of the bullet is bottoming in the seating stem...
This will be a bolt action rifle for Wisconsin deer hunting and we kind of like our lead tip bullets here so it will probably be a 150 Hornady Spire point.
I have some favorites for my gun but would anybody care to chime in I'm about to reload for a buddy and we are hoping to find a magic load for his 308 right off the bat.... I'm kind of leaning towards45 to 46 grains of Varget and setting the bullet 20K off the lands!?
Over the years I have been pretty disappointed with my lot-to-lot variations on reloader 19. My last batch was awfully slow too almost a twin to reloader 22..... I do not think I will waste my time with anymore reloader 19 development.
Some of the most insanely good run out with an F L die I have gotten with Hornady dies. I have done a little fiddling reseating and regripping the sizing stem to get it perfectly centered in the die... Often by tightening it down while the expander is being held in place by a case mouth on a...
I have a number of Hornady die sets and as far as I'm concerned they're all about like buying a small base die. Every set that I have takes more effort to resize brass than any other brands I have... and I have quite a few.
Now that I've sort of complained I will say this... for me they are a...
I was having a hard time buying the compressed load bulging the brass story but over annealing would probably explain it!
I use a Tru tool to correct run out on loaded rounds and I have a really good feeling for how soft and hard necks can be.
My Lyman borescope tells me my 2 tikas have two of the nicest Factory Barrels in my gun safe... this might be part of the reason they always seem to be shooters.
And speaking of Shooters Fotis never seems to disappoint. Hep can do a load development for any of my guns any day of the week I'll...
Probably the first thing to do is find out if your sized brass has run out to any degree before you put the powder in in the bullet on top... if your sizing die is the culprit and you got some run out there it isn't going to get better when you seat the bullet.
And I would say 75% of the time...
There is no easier way to avoid trimming then by not having to do it in the first place.... I have the Sinclair chamber inserts for every caliber I have and it is amazing how much less trimming I do nowadays now that I know the exact dimension of my needs for trimming. Most guns have an easy...
If you can get the original 180 Scirocco to shoot in your gun you have a gun you should keep for life! At least my attempts on several rifles were a failure early in the introduction!
I have the hillbilly version of the Sinclair cleaning kit.... I have a short cleaning rod with a 44 mag brush on it at all times.... I wrap it in varying layers of heavy duty shop towel strips.. or a plunge to 12 gauge shotgun patch with some solvent on it.
Luckily the finale to cleaning is a...
The crazy thing is alliant says that 56.6 re 26 is a Max load with a 100 grain bullet. I don't know if alliant has some kind of a fear of the 2506 case or what because I've gone well beyond their reloader 22 data using quick load and a chronograph to get some really good velocity/accuracy with...
If you are after top velocity with the heavy bullets in the 308 look at re 17. It can be really accurate too but if it's not very good varget probably going to be your Huckleberry!
