My kid and I visited the local WMA area for some ditch chicken slaying. My Drahthaar puppy has a nose on him but is blowing through points to try and catch the birds. I have work to do but his nose is amazing.
A long throated 300wsm with heavy bullets, ie: 215 Bergers, and R-23 or R-26 will run 2920-2950ish with a 24" barrel or around 2960-2980fps with a 26". A long throated 300wm will run almost identical velocities with H-1000. With Retumbo it will add around 40fps and with N-570 it will add about...
If that were true then every winning short range benchrest caliber wouldn't be a 6ppc and almost every .30 1000yd benchrest gun wouldn't be a 300wsm. A optimal case capacity to bore size usually means the best accuracy. That is why the 6BRA is out shooting the 6 Dasher now at 600 and 1000yds.
The Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knives are much stiffer than the Havalon and Gerber knives. They have an aluminum spine the blades slide into that makes them much stiffer. I havent run a fixed blade knife in forever it seems. I carry 2 with me and a elk usually takes both to bone out. Its...
I hunt with tape over my muzzle brakes all the time. My son and I both shot our elk this year that way. I've never seen it effect anything if it's just one level of tape. So I just run one up and over piece and then wrap it one time around the barrel so it doesn't unravel.
That is crazy anal retentive. I bought 72 Savage 12FV rifles at one time from Cabelas. I actually rented a small U-Haul enclosed trailer to transport them and Cabelas didn't like me after that. I bought a ton of gift cards to save about 10% and it took 4 hours for them to do the whole...
It's kind of like the old Vari X III's. Some would dial consistently and other's were a POS. I really like the VX6 3x18 scopes for hunting rifles but they are really screwing up not offering more than 10 MOA, in 1 MOA increments in the reticle on the TMOA scopes. They could easily do 25 MOA. I...
If I was to do it again from the beginning I'd probaby do it on a 37XC case for better brass. I still have the barrel and action (currently on a 30-338 Lapua Imp) so it would be easy to bring it back to life. I shot a bear in the neck shoulder junction with that gun as it climbed on the bait...
My buddy and I built a single shot 460 Weatherby to shoot bears with over bait. It had a 1.25" straight 28" long barrel. We use to shoot 300gr Cutting Edge bullets we modified to basically break apart. We use to shoot them at 3400fps. It was wicked on bears. We also did a 500 A-Square.
I've shot 3 moose, 2 in ID and 1 in AK. My bull in Idaho was 450yds with a 358STA using 250gr Hornady bullets. I popped it in the lungs and it turned slightly, blocking another shot. It stood there for 15-20 seconds and then started swaying side to side before tipping over. My Idaho cow I shot...
I'm with you Don. My dad is 77 and has pretty much given up big game hunting. His knees are shot from high school football and he doesnt want to have surgery. I still get him out to chase pheasants a bit but even that is getting hard on him. He really needs to hit the gym but he has never been...
Jim and Fotis do a great job weeding out the trouble makers early to keep things civil. I sure wish the ladies were still around as they added many different aspects to things. It's too bad many jealous people couldn't handle their success and ran them off. I thoroughly enjoyed their input.
