Frank: I have been using F215 magnum primers in my 270's for about 30 years. Win brass and RL22 powder, 130g ballistic tips, around 3200fps with 22 inch barrels. I feel that any load from 60g on up needs a magnum primer.
Deer are tough, on a late Nevada bow hunt I seen a 3 leg buck with does, his front leg was missing below the shoulder blade and he had 4 points on one side and 6 spikes on the other side. Two bucks came after his does and he ran them off. We had a 3 legged cow elk hanging around our house for...
300 yds. probably don't need to now that I got dial scopes but old habits die hard. Been zeroing at 300 for about 50 years, also it is easier to hold a little low at shorter range than to guess hold over at longer range.
91G US869, F-215 P, new brass, 3.535 oal., 140g acc. I shot this at 350 yds. 2 rounds with new brass and 2 with once fired and 3 shots were in 3/4 inch and shot number 4 made the group 1 1/4 inch. I don't think the length made much difference, the factory loads are 3.50 length. My rifle is...
IMR 7828 works great with Wby's from 257-340 but the 6.5-300 needs a slower burner. Nosler uses in in their 26 Nosler. I am using it in my 6.5-300 with 140 acc going 3400fps, my rifle shoots almost the same size group at 350 yds. as it does at 100 yds., under an inch. Good luck with your's.
Rodell: if you want to achieve full potential from your 6.5-300 I would suggest trying US869 powder, the velocities your are getting are less than a 270 WBY with 130g bullets. I have been using WBY.brass which is Norma for 50 years with great results.
No failure at all, she can be proud of a fine buck. I have had many misses and bad hits in 60 years of hunting and making the perfect behind the shoulder shot in a hurry from a field position is hard to do no matter how much you practice. Anyone who hasn't had this happen has not shot at very...
They will work fine, you should get 3600 to 3700fps as my wife's 270 Win. goes 3450fps with a 22in. barrel. They will kill deer like a bolt of lightning.
Interesting article, my wife has the Creedmoor and I have the 6.5 WBY. It looks like I could shoot a deer as far as I want to shoot with a Creedmoor with a dial scope instead of burning 91g of powder in my WBY. and dealing with the recoil and muzzle blast.
I never have paid any attention to energy numbers, it is penetration that matters. If I could only have one bullet to use it would be the Nosler partition. To bad they don't put a plastic tip on them.
