I finally got a little time to shoot the new 300 Kong...
The one scope I've settled on is not in stock at present so I slapped on a 2.5x10 Bausch and Lomb I had lying around and off I went.
The rifle itself shoots as well as it appears to be made. Simply excellent.
The Accumark just feels...
YES, YES and YES!!!
Listen...
I'd take some availability right now. Even a little bit...
I haven't seen 30 cal 180gr. Ballistic Silvertip bullets since Vietnam. Maybe not that far back but it sure seems like it.
Seriously...
The very #1 sku in the BST lineup..the 180 gr 30 cal...I haven't...
Allow me to introduce you to.....
Wait for it......
Mr. Pipe Dream
And...
Mr. Pipe Dream, please allow me to introduce you to Fotis.
He's looking for two impossible things at once.
Availability, and affordability.
Mr.Pipe Dream: from what company?
Me: Nosler. He wants that from Nosler...
LOL...
Back when i was employed deep in the industry I recall the meeting about moving to 50 per box from my Nosler Rep...
Never....
It went from we'll see how it goes to never going back. ..
They got worried about price so it was enacted to help customer perception of price...
and ultimately...
Word around the campfire from my inside sources...
Most of their powder materials are being used for the fighting in Ukraine.
When a powder gets scarce everyone loves saying it's going to war...
But in this case I think that might be true.
I think back when this got scarce and it lines up in...
I use R17 in 300 WSM's
Have 5 of them now....
I can get around 3100 with a 180 Ballistic Silvertip and a GM215m
I have a jug and a half remaining...
Since the scarcity started I slowed down shooting those weapons.
I can't help but laugh a little at some of the responses.
Lord knows I do some quirky things too but some of this IMO...just made me laugh in a non malicious manner.
I've done so much cooling/warm/hot testing and the only time I can say a difference is met is rapid fire in a semi and or...
Truthfully I'd be willing to bet the .270 with a Ballistic Tip bullet has killed more whitetail than any other caliber with a Ballistic Tip bullet.
The only exception might be the odd six.
BUT...
In my observation...
the 30-06 shooter seems more inclined to load the Interlock bullet from...
I appreciate the responses so far...
Does anyone have a picture of said accubond out of a whitetail type sized game so I could actually see the expansion.
Nosler recommends the BT for antelope but not the Accubond.
Is it too hard that Nosler advises against using it on the smaller non thick...
My question was just asking a generalized assessment of the bullet overall and it's acrual performance on types of game.
Not the 30 kong specifically.
Nosler only shows "bigger" type game...
How big from there little animation....🤷🤷🤷🤷
Where's your threshold for the Accubond in relation to type of game and size?
Would you be comfortable using it on a 100# undressed whitetail?
Obviously a 200+ pounder is a different story....
As is such with Muledeer, Elk and so on.
When Barnes first hit the market in the 90's era, and the...
Well..
Impossible to answer exact with your caliber and speed.
Reason why...
The angle.
An acute angle 200 yards in. No problem with your caliber/bullet. Right angle same same.
An obtuse angle shot is where it can get tricky.
All sorts of quirky things can happen at an angle like that but...
You are overthinking this indeed.
I've killed a lot...and I mean a lot of deer and deer sized game with ballistic tip bullets.
A footnote..
I always and I mean ALWAYS...when starting a new load with ballistic tip bullets I always seat the bullet .010 below the published COAL.
In your case...
At one time what you say is true but...
today that is not true.
The FTC is very hard core in enforcing the labeling of goods for sale in the USA. I don't know the year they started taking that very seriously but they mean business!
An item can NOT use the made in USA with no other exceptions...
Appreciate the satire but in reality you come on a reloading forum and just post a "what's the best" kind of question.
"Best" means many things to many people.
Speed, accuracy, compromise of both....
My reply was trying to be helpful by finding out what exactly you were looking for
