Load suggestions for the 300 wsm

Well, lets try this again. I just tried to reply to this post only to be told I had been banned from the forum. I hope this is an issue that goes away. I have loaded ammo for six rifles chambered in the 300 WSM. A standout load in each of them has been a near maximum load of H 4350 behind a...

    Case Trimmers

Well, I hate to recommend such an expensive item, but I REALLY like the Sinclair Stainless Ultimate Trimmer. It is teribly expensive at $185.99 in the Sinclair catalog, but I have used nothing that comes close when it comes to case trimming. The Sinclair is just an upgraded version of the...

    I welcome the thoughts...

Of the two scopes your considering, I would much rather have the Zeiss. However, if you want a good quality scope that is small and lighweight, why not try the Leupold VX3 in 2.5-8 power? It is a 1" tube scope and is pretty compact while still having Leupold VX3 optical quality, it only has a...

    Scope for Tikka 270 WSM?

I am surprised there are not more responses here, but I will give my opinion. My Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow chambered in 270 WSM wears a 4.5-14x40 LR Leupold with the Boone and Crockett reticle sitting in Leupold dual dovetail mounts. I can see little reason to change to something else...

You powder choice for the 375 H&H Mag?

My 375 H&H load is right out of the Barnes manual. A 270 grain TSX over a max load of H 4895. Works for me.

    I'm up to six now!

Interesting topic, to be sure. I am in my 60's and just recently bought my first 30-06. Even at that, I did not want the rifle for the caliber, but because it is a beautifull Winchester Super Grade that Winchester is offering to celebrate 75 years of making the model 70. Great looking rifle...

    270WSM Brass

All I can tell you is that I am not buying any of that high priced brass, period. Let's face it, a 270 WSM is a hunting rifle, not a bench rest competition gun. I just use Winchester brass and still shoot groups hovering around a 1/2 inch-plenty good for a hunting rifle ( I think). Yes, I...

    WHICH ONE?

I think a 270 WSM would fit your needs very well. I won a Winchester Model 70 chambered in 270 WSM that I really like a lot. That 270 WSM is a pretty good rifle. My favorite load for mine shoots a 140 grain Nosler Partition at 3200 fps. It has worked well on mule deer, black bear, wild...

Opinions on Brightest low-medium power scope u

You guys are making some great choices here, but why not simply buy a Leupold 2.5 X 8 VX3 and be done with it. That scope is small, lightweight, bright, and well under $700. I prefer higher scopes on a lot of my rifles, but I have three 2.5 X 8 X 32 Leupolds and they are great scopes.

7mm Weatherby and 160gr Accubonds - which powder?

Lot of responses already, all good. I shoot a 7mm Weatherby Magnum and have pretty much used 160 grain bullets all the time. I used to use the 160 Nosler Partition with great success, but have had to switch to the 160 grain Barnes TSX for use here in California. My top two powder choices are...

    VX6 1-6 ???

Just something to consider. I was quite interested as well in the VX-6 1-6 power until I really read the latest Leupold catalog. On page 100 of the catalog it states: " VX-6 Riflescopes can not be mounted with LOW rings. The power selector knobs will not clear the base, and the bolt may...

    25/06 Ballistic Tip Loads

You are on the right track, but if the H 4831 sc does not work for you maybe you should try IMR 7828. I load a max load of IMR 7828 behind the 115 BT and use a Fed 215M primer. I get about 3150 fps and great groups. I have shot several antelope with this load and a mess of wild hogs, it works...

Where do you stay when you hunt & fish?

Well Guy, I guess I have tried most of the same setups. About the only thing I have not tried is backpacking. I am 63 and even at 20 it did not appeal to me. I too have hunting close enough that a lot of times it is just a one day from home, leaving in the dark and probably getting home in...

What would you try next .338WM

Well, it looks to me like that gun does not like light bullets much, or has a problem. If you like RL 19, try it with the 250 grain Sierra Matchking. My .338 Win Mag shoots great with RL 19, a STANDARD LR primer and the 250 Sierra. Work up carefully to a maximum of 72 grains. My favorite...

    Heads up, new Mexico nonresidents

Well, I was checking on the New Mexico Game and Fish web page today and found a couple of surprises. I have a hunt booked in New Mexico for antelope (great hunt, this will be 7 years in a row I think) and was checking on opening day, etc. My hunt starts on August 25th which is awfully early...

What's the largest POI change between loads you've seen?

No, I do not remember any POI changes that dramatic, but sometimes it is amazing. A neighbor had a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 chambered in 270 Winchester that would place Remington 130 grain ammo a good 6 inches left of Winchester 130 grain ammunition. And I owned a Ruger Number One chambered...

    M700 LSS 257 Weatherby

Those are interesting rifles to be sure. They were a limited run manufactured in 2008. They are a little heavy, but not too bad. The interesting thing is my dad bought one when they first came out. His rifle shoots so good you would not believe it. Just great accuracy with just about...

.338 Federal Should Be Here Shortly

Mike, you and I agree on most things as far as I can tell on this forum. However, I would not even consider putting a 4.5 X 14 power scope on a 338 Federal. Seems much to much power to me. I have more 4.5 X 14 power scopes than I want to admit, but on a .338 Federal I would like a 2.5 X 8...

    Bought a "Prraying Mantis"

As much as I love laminated stocks, you can have that one. My goodness!

    win 760 vs H 414

This is only an opinion, but look for another powder. Both 760 and H 414 are dirty burning, temperature sensitive, and lot variable. I will never use either one again, especially in the 22-250. My buddy and I used to hunt prairie dogs a lot and after each day's shoot he would spend about 4...
