.22lr with a can for squirrels?

That all depends on what type of squirrels you are talking about. If you are shooting tree squirrels to eat, yeah, a supressed gun might give you an edge. If you are shooting ground squirrels just for fun, get over it, they are not that smart. I once knew a guy who was shooting ground...

Help scope a 300 wsm xbolt

All I can tell you is that both my 300 WSM rifles wear Leupold 4.5 x 14 x 40 LR scopes and I would not change a thing. Both are mounted in Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts. Both have the Boone and Crockett reticle. I am an avid turret fan for long range varminting, but for big game, the B&C...

    RL25 in a 270 Winchester

I totally agree that RL 25 is just too slow burning to be of good use in a 270 Winchester. In a 270WSM it was highly touted by some writers a few years back. And while I also agree that H 4831 or RL 22 are hard to beat, do not overlook H 4350. I recently worked up loads for a Browniing A Bolt...

    reloader 22 in a 7mm rem. magnum

Reloader 22 can be very good in a 7mm Rem Mag. It is usually a top performer. However, the Nosler TGR rifle I am currently working with shoots a good deal better groups and gives more velocity when using IMR 7828. In fact, I was having trouble getting the Nosler claim of MOA groups till I...

    H.S. Precision Stocks

I too own several "after market " stocks. I have one Bell and Carlson, two McMillans, and three H-S Precision stocks. The H-S stocks are my favorites. The one on my Remington Model 700 Classic in 300 Wby is a fine example. I really like the feel of the thing and the looks (it is what they...

Oh, WoW !...That Fast, for Real..............QuickLoad Help

" I really need to buy me a Chrony." No, this is exactly why you should not buy a Chrony. They are simply unreliable. Sure, they are cheap, but they are so often wrong. Save a little more money and buy a better unit, there are several better brands out there.

Swarovski Optik - Superb Coustomer Service

For my reconditioning of my 7X30 SLC's it took just about a month. They promised to have them done in a month and they did.

Swarovski Optik - Superb Coustomer Service

You are right about Swaroski service. I just did the same thing with a pair of 7x30 SLC binoculars that I bought in the year 2000. I sent them back to their repair facility in Rhode Island and they cleaned and reconditioned them for no charge. The binoculars look like they are brand new and...

    New 270 WSM which brand?

I own a Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow Camo, which is no longer cataloged. I really like that rifle and it shoots well. That exact model is not available but the Ultimate Shadow SS is the same gun, but with a black stock. It lists for $969.99, but I imagine you can get one cheaper than...

Why do I want an Ackley Imp?

Why, heck who knows. Wildcats can just be fun to mess with. I used to own a 240 Page Souper Pooper a LONG time ago. It was fun and plenty fast. And I messed with a 6-284 for a while, faster yet, but a little bit of a pain to make cases for. If you tried to neck 284 brass down to 6mm you...

    Partitions or Ballistic Tips ?

Guy, while it may seem unreasonable, I have had better luck on game with the 115 Grain Ballistic Tip than the Partition. I am a huge Partition fan, but in the 25-06 with the 115 grain weight I have had the Ballistic Tip kill game more reliably. No, I never lost any game shot with the 115...

Difference between regular and match grade primes

Dr Mike gave good advice as always. All I can add is that whether or not you can tell the difference is up to the gun in question. I own a 300 Wby magnum and a 375 H&H that show no preference when testing the 215 primer versus the 215M. NONE I own a 7mm Wby Magnum that after extensive...

    Short Mags... primers?

By the time the short mags came out I had already pretty much standardized on the Fed 215M for all my magnum rifles. (Even for my 25-06 when using IMR 7828 with heavy bullets) So, when the short mags came along I just used Fed 215M and see no reason to switch.

    Ideas for new chuck gun

This is just an opinion, but that is what you asked for, right? I would skip the first three you list, not enough horse power. And I would not really like to plink at chucks all day with my 300 WSM's. (Although I really like shooting coyotes with them) I would probably go with a .257...

Nosler 40 gr B/T Rate of twist?

I had one of the first 223 WSSM rifles in a Model 70 and I believe it had a one in 10 twist. It shot bullelts from 40 to 60 grains all about the same, that is to say, lousy. I shot 40 grain Ballistic Tips over 4400 fps and never had any fail to reach to target. Heck, factory 55 grain...

    Keeping things simple

Wow, great story Guy, thanks for posting that. Quite interesting, to be sure. While I will never get to see that kind of hunting, my first centerfire rifle was a Remington Model 722 chambered in .244 Remington and fitted with a used 4X Bushnell scope. I killed lots of game with that gun...

    Powder and the atmosphere

I do not have any scientific data to prove it, but in my experience I have found 760 to be the most sensitive to temperature change with 748 close behind. On the other end of the spectrum, I find most any of the Hodgdon Extreme powders to be quite insensitive to temperature changes.

    7MM-08 Powders

In my 7-08 rifles Varget and IMR 4064 have worked out best for me. They are nearly interchangable for load data. (As is Vitavouri N140) I also had good luck with either IMR 4350 or H 4350 with 140 grain bullets. When forced to find a load for a "no lead" bullet here in CA, I wound up using...

    416 Rigby

Spent a good deal of time with a 416 Rigby a while back. We wanted to use Barnes TSX and Banded Solids. The owner of the rifle wanted to use the 350 grain bullets to help tame the recoil. However, this was a Merkel double rifle that had sights that were regulated for 400 grain bullets. These...

What power setting on the scope?

I have to start by saying most of my big game rifles wear Leupold 4.5 x 14 x 40 LR scopes. I generally keep these set on 4.5 when hunting unless in pretty open country, in which case I set them on 6 power. I have killed more game with them set on the 4.5 setting than any other, even some at...
