My experience with RL 19 is a little different that the rest of the guys here. It is the ONLY powder that I load in magnum cases using standard rifle primers.
I have messed with the .338 Win Mag at length. RL 19 gave very good groups, indeed, with Sierra 250 Game Kings in two different...
As usual Dr Mike is right on the money. Just buy a Leupold lens pen. Heck, everyone has them these days, Cabela's, etc. Use the brush end to get the dirt and debri off then use the other end to clean the lens. These thing seem to last forever, as do Leupold scopes, I have a couple of 2.5 X 8...
Good responses here so far. Norma does indeed make Weatherby brass and it is good quality.
Remington made brass is, in my opinion, capable of withstanding more pressure than the Norma brass. This is a good thing, because Remington brass is enough thicker that the pressures are higher when...
I too, have hunted with Roger Miller. We have always had a good hunt and Roger and his staff are first rate.
I really should go over there more often, not very far to drive from here. There is a multitude of game in that area. The Parkfield area has huntable deer and hogs, doves as you...
Well, since you have been to Douglas before, why not go back? The tags are pretty easy to draw there. A lot of the land is posted, but most ranchers will let you hunt for a reasonable tresspass fee.
We hunted north of Douglas a few years back on our own and the tresspass fee was something...
I have to admit that I have not hunted there in years, but since you were looking for a Wyoming elk tag, why not consider it for mule deer?
Most mule deer herds have suffered over the last decade, but Wyoming certainly has the genetics to provide some decent heads.
We used to hunt a lot near...
Interesting, your H 4350 load almost matches mine for my 338 Win Mag.
I load 71 grains of H 4350 behind a 225 Nosler Partition and sparked by a Fed 215M. I get identical velocties and great groups.
It impresses elk and wild hogs a lot!
Thanks for posting and thank goodness you did not get hurt.
I actually saw my buddy shoot three rounds of 7BR ammmo in a 6.5x308 during a IHMSA pistol championship. He was shooting shootoff targets and could not hit even close, his shots were all high. He could not figure out what was...
I have to agree with the previous posts. The first bull is surely going to get shot at, the second will be safe unless he offers a better shot because of all the junk in the way.
For either one, I probably will be carrying my 300 Weatherby Mag fitted with a 4.5x14x40 LR Leupold. But, I might...
Just as a follow up, I finally got out to test the 165 GMX in my own rifles. I own two Remington 700 rifles chambered in 300 WSM (an XCR and a CDL). After the way the GMX shot in my buddies gun, I just had to try them in mine, right?
What a dissapointment! Both rifles shot groups of 1.5 to...
I really have mixed emotions about the new Remington triggers. I own four Remington rifles which have the X Mark Pro triggers that are NOT externally adjustable. In all cases I found a simple removal from the stock and adjustment of the trigger return spring has led to a safe, reliable, 2.5...
After spending more time than seemed reasonable trying to get a friends 300 WSM to shoot the Barnes 168 or 180 TSX (we live in central California), I finally tried some Hornady 165 GMX bullets and was rewarded with repeatable 1/2 inch groups.
I had been dissapointed in the rifle because it has...
As usual, I agree with JD338, but I like to go one better. My favorite elk load for my 338 Win Mag uses the 225 grain Partition. It works, period. I am just not convinced that the Accubond is the way to go. I MUCH prefer the Partition.
I have a friend in New Mexico that shot a cow elk last...
For coyotes try the 75 grain V-Max. When loaded over a max load of IMR 4831 it does wonders on coyotes, really smacks them.
For deer and such I prefer the 100 grain Nosler Partition over IMR 4831. It has worked well on deer, antelope, wild hogs, and a few coyotes as well.
I know they are a terrible amount of money, but the other guys are right, just buy the Swarovski and have the best.
I tried several cheaper range finders and they just did not work at anything over 400 yards. Well heck, out to 400 yards how bad do you need a range finder?
I find my Swarovski...
In regard to seating depth, I too just seat the bullets to fit in the magazine. I own two Remington 700 Classics chambered in Weatherby cartridges. One is the 7mm Wby Mag, the other a 300 Wby mag. In both rifles I just chose a length that would fit the magazine as they both have plenty of...
I thought I responded to this post this morning, but I must have screwed up somewhere.
I own a Remington 700 Classic chambered in 7mm Weatherby Magnum and find it a great rifle and cartridge. I am of the opinion that it is just a little better than the 7mm Remington magnum.
For sure, if I...
Interesting topic, apparently ovelap does not bother me either.
I own three rifles chambered in 22-250. I own two rifles chambered in 7-08. I own two 300 WSM rifles as well as a 300 Weatherby Magnum.
Sometimes it makes sense, like my two 7-08 rifles. One is a heavy barreled model bought for...
In answer to your biggest concern, no, I don't think you could tell the difference in shells with 2/10 of a grain difference in powder. Especially in field conditions on prairie dogs. And especially in that darned Wyoming wind.
Sure, if you are trying to stretch the range WAY out there maybe...
This is just an off the wall suggestion, but try using some Barnes TSX bullets in that gun. As mentioned, maybe your gun just does not shoot well with the Accubond. My 338 Win Mag does not shoot them well at all. In fact, I had to try the Nosler Accubond in 5 different .338 caliber rifles...
