I am died in the wool Remington fan, my safe is full of them, from 22 LR to .375 H&H. Having said that Remington's quality control is NOT what it used to be.
I do feel that the new X-Mark Pro trigger is an improvement over the olds style, I have had no problem adjusting them down to about 2.5...
The following is from the 3rd edition of the Vihtavuori Reloading Manual:
300 Weatherby with the 165 grain Speer boat tail;
N 160 powder 74.8 grains starting load 2818 fps 82.9 grains maximum load 3193 fps
N165 powder 80.9 grains starting load 2823 fps 89.6 grains maximum load 3216 fps...
You should have a great time with the new rifle. The 280 is a much overlooked cartridge that deserves the apparent new interest it is receiving.
Necking 270 Win brass up or 30-06 brass down should either one work fine. You may have to fire form the cases though, as the base to shoulder length...
Both my 300 WSM rifles are shooting 168 grain Barnes TSX bullets and I would not hesitate in the least to take on a bull elk with them.
I prefer the 180 Partitions, but if my gun shot 165's better, that is what I would go with. Oddly enough, I have tried 165 grain Partitions in a number of 300...
I too, bought the Hornady Sonic Cleaner and like how it works.
Using Hornady's own additive in the water ( I think it is citric acid) I find that it cleans cases well enough if you do several cycles. And, I find that if you fill it too full with cases you need to rotate them between cycles to...
My pick would be the same rifle I chose for the deer/antelope discussion. Model 70 Winchester Super Shadow Camo chambered in 270 WSM and wearing a Leupold 4.5x14x40LR scope with Boone and Crockett reticle.
Of course if I could get away with it I might borrow my dad's Ultralight Arms chambered...
Fortunately, I already own my first choice. I would pick my Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow Camo chambered in 270 WSM. It is a great rifle to pack around and is pretty much impervious to weather. I have a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5 X 14 LR with the Boone and Crockett reticle on it. I shoot the...
This is a totally illogical response! If you like it, if you can afford it, BUY IT.
I see little need for a 325 WSM if you own a 300 Win Mag. HOWEVER, if you want it, get it. I would much rather have a .338 Win Mag or .340 Weatherby Mag, but the 325 WSM is a logical step up.
If it will not...
As usual, I agree with JD 338 on this one.
The only light weight bullet I was totaly satisfied with in the .338 Win Mag was the 200 grain Ballistic Tip which is not produced any more. Yeah, I know they make the 200 grain Accubond, but I am not sold on the Accubond line of bullets, not at all...
I, personally, would choose a different bullet. My buddies and I have had mixed results with the 100 grain Ballistic Tip.
We usually shoot Nosler Partitions and have shot a pile of wild hogs with the 100 grain bullet. One of my buddies decided to try the 100 grain BT in his 25-06. He shot a...
Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us. Those are all outstanding animals, especially that antelope, WOW!
Great choice of calibers and rifles. Again, congratulations, I know how special it is to be able to hunt with your dad.
It would appear that you are, indeed, not using the chamfering tool enough on the case mouths. Those slivers of copper that are being sliced off your bullets are not going to do good things for their accuracy.
Having said that, maybe most of us cannot shoot well enough to tell the...
Your post just clearly demonstrates that as hunters these days we have way too much time on our hands to dream up stuff.
Do you really think there is a reason to make a 168 grain .308 diameter Accubond when we already have a 165 grain? What the hell good would a 190 grain Accubond do when we...
While I have never had a problem with the windage screws on the standard Leupold or the old Redfield systems come loose, I have seen plenty of others who have.
In fact, a set of old Redfield rings and bases have been on my .338 Win Mag since 1987 and they have never given me a problem of any...
POP, I do not mean to be a smart ass here, but is it possible that when you "locked" the turrets to the new setting you were turning the adjustments without knowing it?
I have seen people do some weird things to scopes that they did not realize. I saw one guy take the adjustment covers off a...
I really cannot adress Remington's service as of late, but I have to agree with POP that their quality has dropped off.
I have been hearing horror stories about Remington's from any number of gun store owners all over California for a couple of years now. I thought it was sort of overblown...
Well, I guess I got a head start on you guys. My dad and I just got back from another great antelope hunt in New Mexico.
We hunt with an outfit that borders the Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. This guy owns more property than the NRA and has he got plenty of game (deer, antelope...
I guess I have been lucky, I just have not seen too much variation in weights in brass. Sure, I know it it there, but I usually do not fret too much about it. If I were shooting bench rest I would worry about it, but for hunting, who can shoot that well in the field?
Case in point: I loaded...
