I like that you used the 140 gr out of your 280 AI for your grizzly. Too many guys think they need a cannon with the toughest bullet available. Not surprised that it gave you a very quick kill.
@Blkram Gil, the 200 gr Accubond out of your 358 Win would be perfect for anything you'll want to hunt. Since it is a custom hopefully you'll be able to load it out a bit more than the 2.8" limit it the BLR.
The bigger Accubond's are built tougher than the smaller ones but they all are excellent bullets.
I have used the 130 gr 6.5 mm and 180 gr out of a 30-06 on blacktails that were sub 100 lbs and liked the performance.
Have used
6.5 mm 130 gr - blacktail deer (several of them)
308 180 gr...
They will do just fine. They should open a decent size would channel without a lot of extra meat damage. We used the old version of the 7 mm and it worked well
The 6.5 mm always was a one piece core and it is a favorite for deer and bear. My friend and son use the current 270 150 gr on deer...
That's why he came on asking the question, it behaved very oddly and was wondering why. He clearly stated it was a broadside shot several times.
Most of the time bullets behave as expected but the odd time they do unexpected things.
I believe that bullet is designed for the 35 Rem at much slower speeds. Sounds like it was still tough enough to handle that extra velocity. I would agree with you about using something a bit more suitable for the Whelen. Someone mentioned the 225 gr Sierra and that's what I would look at next.
I would choose the 300 WSM and think it's the best of the 300's myself. Easy to load it full power or load it at 308 or 30-06 speeds. In a Tikka definitely a 300 WSM, you'll have lots of room in that magazine. The 300 Win mag you'll won't have much room unless you go with new bottom metal.
With...
I think that could have happened with any bullet to be honest. Sometimes weird things happen. I wouldn't worry about it too much and would try the 95 gr BT again. Of course you could try the Accubond or Partition instead.
Not sure if you have seen this channel before but they do some cool testing of bullets. I think they have the 6.5 mm ABLR on their list to try but haven't done it yet. They have videos on the 277 165 and 7mm 175 already up. This one is pretty similar to the ones you are using so you'll probably...
According to this in 2022 the US caught 1155 terrorists that came from Canada. That's 5 times what came from Mexico during the same time frame. How many weren't caught is the question and why were they allowed to come into Canada...
President Trump wants Canada to secure the border and they aren't listening so he's getting their attention. Don't think it will go anywhere once they do.
We have a lot of illegals that have come up here too just like the US. They are causing lots of problems for us and heading down into your...
Beautiful spot to hunt, not much better that to sit a few hours and watch a place like that for game.. I have to be honest though, when I opened the thread I was expecting to see a trout lol.
Like many of you I tried the bigger magnums when I was younger and they worked fine. The biggest was the 375 Ruger that was very accurate. It shot my best group ever with it even to this day. I did eventually move it along since my 35 Whelen was 2 lbs lighter and killed just as well.
I was...
I have a regular pistol grip 20 Stoeger Condor O/U. Works fine so far and it does have interchangeable choke tubes. Not the highest quality but functional.
Baikal made some pretty durable guns so I would take a good look at the one at the LGS. The Stoeger is a good value especially if you can...
