I would like to buy a Hornady modified case for 300 Win Mag. This threads onto a Hornady OAL tool. I have tried to find this online but it is out of stock everywhere
Thanks

Good data. Thanks for posting. I had heard that IMR 7383 was tricky to work with and did not show normal pressure signs like we are accustomed to and had a sudden and sharp pressure spike. That is why I was working up so carefully.
About 10 or 15 years ago I bought a shipment of milsurp powders from Gi-Brass (Jeff Bartlett). One of the 8 lb jugs was a powder called IMR 7383 , not to be confused with IMR 7828 cannister powder , which we are all familiar with. It is listed as a milsurp replacement for 4831 and advised to use...
I used Rem 9 1/2M primers in the 7 mags and CCI 200 in the 270 and 30/06.
I realize that 150 gr for the 270 might get better results but didnt want to blow thru too many components on this test.
30/06 I would not use anything heavier than 180 gr in my hunting.
I know mag primers might give up...
Here are my results from the WC 857 tests. As always, you must be careful working up loads for your guns but this is especially true for milsurp powder which does not have much published data and lots vary much more than the canister powders we are used to working with. So with that said, here...
Funny you should start this thread. I have an 8 lb keg of this powder which I bought about 10 years ago. I did 3 test loads for my 7mm Wea mag then and had plans this week to start experimenting in 270 Win, 30/06 and 7 mm Rem Mag.
Here are the test loads that I had run:
7mm Wea Mag

Since Retumbo is unavailable for the foreseeable future, can someone recommend the next best replacement for it using 180 gr Accubonds? IMR 8133?
Maybe Dr Mike would kindly run a 30-378 Wea QL using 180 gr AB, Wea cases, Fed 215 primers??
Please , pretty please?
TIA

I loaded up a batch of 35 grs IMR 4895, WW Chrome brass, 9 1/2 Rem primers , 120 gr NBT bullets at .020" off the lands and reshot for velocity and group. I got an average of 2380 fps and 1" group for my first 3 round group at 100 yards. I think I am finished with my load development!
Hope this...
Here are my results regarding velocity only. I am loading for a H&R Handi-rifle with a 20.5" barrel, 7-08 Rem caliber. I am using IMR 4895 , WW chrome plated brass and Rem 9 1/2 primers, 120 gr Nosler BT bullets. I have fired only one shot with each load over a Magnetospeed.
28 grs - 1850 fps...
I just talked to Hodgdon and yes I can substitute IMR 4895 with this same formula. I was quite confident that I could since burn rate is almost identical but as several posters commented you can never be too careful with powder. I am looking for 2400-2500 fps with a 120 gr bullet. I will begin...
Does any of our esteemed posters have a good reduced recoil load for the 7-08, say using a 120 gr bullet at around 2400 fps? I am trying to find some data to work one up for a youth rifle.

a couple of E-Tip questions for our members:
1) how would you rate the expansion of a 7mm 150 gr E-Tip versus a similar TTSX for whitetail deer when started out at 3200 fps? How about smaller calibers such as .257?
2) if you were elk hunting, would you prefer a 7mm 160 gr Accubond, 150 gr...
I too have had great success using Ballistic Tip bullets in many calibers ; 6mm - 95 gr, 6.5 mm 120 and 140 gr, 270 - 130 gr, 7mm 140 gr (7-08) and 150 gr (7 mag), 30 cal - 150, 165 and 180 gr. Like Guy it is normally my go to bullet. Mainly used on deer and hogs up to 250#. However, on an...
Ive used the 154 gr SST in a 7mm Rem Mag quite a bit for deer and pigs and it works very well with complete pass thru on most shots. I do not have any experience on elk. None of them running around the bayou!
