Hahah Joel I've not often had to dig mates out of bed to pack, they usually come up with a last minute reason to go home the afternoon before and leave the pack and clean up to me!
My mid winter project has consisted of working up loads for my Sako a7 in 308 Win, and getting rifle and scope to...
Yes I reckon the 125BT in the 308 would give a 270 Win with 130 grainers quite a run for the money too. Wouldn't match for BC but within 400y you might not notice...
Heheh yes I have my Imperial munched badly with my Metric 'eh?!
I still have 450 of these 168g Amaxes and I can think of no reason not to use them even on a big Sambar deer should one happen my way, and they're a very large animal. I was using them in the LR 308 but I'm changing over to Dyer...
This was about 15cm (6") into the stack of wet newspaper. The Amax is really blowing a huge cavity through the media...
Top right is the Amax at 2600, bottom right is the slower Amax. Top left is the 130 SP at 2900fps, bottom left is the slower 130g. Interlocks are centre, fastest at top...
So I've got the new Sako A7 dialed in with a couple of loads but at present my working load is the 168g Amax launched a smidge over 2700fps. I've got about 400 of these so they'll keep me going for a while, but I wanted to do a penetration test alongside a couple of other Hornady bullets I've...
I'd further characterise it as No Frills, but very well designed and finished.
There's a lot of discussion on the forums as to why this model should or shouldn't cost more than a Tikka T3. Having now shot a bit of both, I can see the extra value here, especially if you're shooting a short...
Hello Fellows, as per another post I've just bought into a Sako A7 stainless in 308 Win.
Just thought I'd share a few views on it. I've had it seven days now, with about 150 rounds in various configurations down the spout.
Initial loads which were leftovers from an old clunker 308 Win went...
Smoothie I've not shot it but Im interested in this combo for my own 30-06.
I'd be very surprised if it didn't stabilise. 2700fps should be doable even in a 22" barrel and that decent speed should assist. You hear of people shooting 215g Bergers successfully in 308 Winchesters with 1-12...
Appears they may be even more soft than the SST, which is a bullet I like but at impact speeds 2800 and under.
Wonder how the ELD-M version would fare? Hard to imagine it would be tougher.
No mate its all good re the gettimg older thing! . The limits on my time are all generally caused by good things.
You're right the Woodleigh is one worth considering. The 130g Bonded version would be great launched around 3100fps on all manner of game.
Scotty the Amax has been a little hard to come by here of late so I've been shooting lots of the BTHP in 75g as well. They're about as cheap as any bullet available here and very accurate.
No problems putting them on steel plates out to 750y either which a year or two ago I'd have thought I...
Just got through a wet newspaper test for the 223 Rem (a little RAR Compact) using two of my favourite bullets; the 65g Gameking and the 75g Amax.
As I often do I fired three of each at three different velocities, to approximate impact at different ranges. In this case I attempted to simulate...
I like that little rifle. Just about ideal for a lot of the pig hunting I do, walking them up from scrub and long grass.
I suspect a 240g HP at those speeds will surprise deer of all sizes!
Thanks P,
As the kids come on line with the pig and deer hunting, I figure a light handling and soft shooting 6.5 CM will be a natural step up from the little 223, and a great excuse to play with the .264 cal which I've had little time with.
While I get organised the A7 in 308 will supplant...
Bought the Sako A7 in 308.
Gonna go 6.5 RAR as well.
A couple of old 308s, a 270, a 303, the 250 AI and a shotgun have laid down their lives in sacrifice!
Excited....
Thanks Blkram that's not a suggestion I've turned aside at this stage even though I'm thinking short action at this time.
The 270 and 250 both go to the dealer this morning...
It'll be all right!
Won't it?

Hey Gerry I know.... can't believe it myself but time to try something new in the form of some different rifles and maybe a new cartridge or two.
I'm also finding with commitments, its a little hard to get away for longer hunting trips, and I'm enjoying playing around with trying to shoot...
Gene I hadn't even looked in that direction. I shall do so now thanks.
The other thing I was thinking was stick with the 30-06 Zastava and dabble 6.5C via a Ruger American Predator. A very modest outlay to see what all the fuss is about. In fact with the gear I am laying off I could certainly...
