    New .224 ideas!

I’m toying with the idea of a 22Dasher with a 1-6.5” twist. Or maybe go a bit simpler with a 22-250 with the same twist rate. It a concept with a bit going for it with the newer very low drag .224 bullets!

    Speer Impact Rifle bullets

Ok thanks. Been toying for some while with the idea of a 6.8SPC bolt gun. Could be real nice on the pigs I think!

    Speer Impact Rifle bullets

+1 on Scott’s comments. Nice expansion and impressive speed on the 6.8SPC. Could I trouble you to list your rifle and load specs?

    Speer Impact Rifle bullets

I’ve never heard of Gold Dot rifle bullets. I thought a Gold Dot were pistol bullets only. Nice looking offerings.

    Brace Yourself... New Powder!

Don’t sweat it Guy. I’m shooting H4895 and H4831SC and almost nothing else these days! A little bit of H4350 for variety but those powders cover just about everything. Good on you for your bold experiments however

    70 grain .224 Accubond

Any updates? Hopefully it will come in with a BC pushing 0.400 or so. Would make it a great all rounder from varmints to light deer. With the length listed they should / oughta’ stabilise fine in a 1-9” twist I’d think. They’re shorter than the Hornady 75g BTHP and they are very accurate in my...

QL request for 25 creedmoor and 115 grain NBT

Just went back over my reloading notes and saw that with H4350 I was getting about 70fps less with a compressed charge. The load seemed mild but the case was too full to get more in. I also used Hornady 117g Interlock BTSPs with the same loads and speeds were near identical. Accuracy was a...

QL request for 25 creedmoor and 115 grain NBT

Not a 25 CM but I shot a 250 Sav AI for a couple of years. Mine was a 25” barrel and with the 115 NBT with Reloder 17. Can’t remember the exact load but was getting a little over 3100fps with good accuracy and nil untoward pressure signs. Later I took 4” off the bbl and lost 99fps. I think...

    Berger bullets

About 0.040” give or take. I’ve always found them very accurate, right up there with Sierra.

    Berger bullets

To the OP, I’d be surprised if the load data couldn’t be safely interchanged, as long as you start with less than maximum loads and work gradually up. The loads I’ve worked up with Bergers used roughly the same powder and generated around the same speeds as their NBT, Interlock and SGK...

    6mm-284

Yes those Bergers look good but I have one thousand Vmaxes!

    6mm-284

Thanks Dwh, I suspect my 10 twist may be a fail with the 105 long bullets. I’m thinking 87 Vmax for foxes, goats and so on and 80g TTSX for pigs and deer. I’d battle to fit the 105s in the internal magazine anyway. Appreciate the advice and insights!

    6.5x284 load data please

I have a question about the above data. The OAL listed is quite long; could the 6.5-284 be squeezed into a short action using binderless AICS style mags with the VLD style bullets? In other words could something like the 140g RDF be effectively loaded to around an OAL of 3.00”?

    6mm-284

Hello Folks. Just picked up a secondhand Vanguard Stainless - chambered in 6mm-284 in a 10 twist 24” bbl. Anyone have experience with this round? There is a bit of data out there for it but not as much as some. Ive been told 240Wby data can serve as a guide but I’m leery of that given the...

165 Sierra Gamechanger/Tipped Gameking (TGK) and 7 Mashburn

The .050” off the lands group looks as good as the 0.075” one to me. Perhaps better. I’d go for a slightly mild load and forget chasing speed. That thing has horsepower to burn!

    Wet newspaper vs 25g .17cal Vmax vs 22LR 40g

Thought I’d see how a 17 calibre varmint bullet would fare in the wet newspaper test. I’m almost exclusively using the Hornady 25g Vmax in the 17 Fireball at present, loaded to a mild 3500fps muzzle velocity from the 20” bbl. Accuracy is excellent with this load. I stacked up a wad of 9” of wet...

6mm 87g Hornady Vmax wet / dry newspaper test

A good mate of mine is using the 87 Vmax exclusively on pigs in his Howa 243 and has dropped some big ones. I suspect with a well placed shot in the ribs they’ll handle most boars and deer. In fact I’d be amazed if they didn’t. I would add this latest batch looks slightly different in...

6mm 87g Hornady Vmax wet / dry newspaper test

Yep me too. I expected much less penetration. I think it would be a great one at 6x45 or 6mm Grendel speeds.
