Well according to QL above, less than 54k psi.
Sometimes I wonder a little about QL though. I find it valuable and very very interesting, but to take it as gospel might be a little risky.
I loved my 250AI, but sold it because it just wasn't packaged in the perfect rifle for me. Great...
25Fan,
I moved my 250AI on, but mine had a 25 inch bbl that I later trimmed to 21".
Was mainly using 100g Speer Hot Cors and 117g Interlock BTSP loads with R17. After the bbl chop I settled for around 3050fps for the 100 grainers and 2900fps for the 117s. They were pretty mild loads it seemed...
I don't have QL but I do know how well R17 and H4350 do with those bullets.
I believe I was getting around 3070fps with 4350 and 3100+fps with 17. All combos shot within about 1cm of one another in respect of point of impact.
None of the loads were compressed.
Have fun.
I think you'll find for deliberate, accurate shooting the ergos will be improved and the recoil tamed down a bit, so the extra weight shouldn't worry you.
Smart looking outfit.
Brian your 56g load of IMR4198 is fairly consistent with my loads of H4198 regarding velocity. I believe you're in the ball park now.
I'm betting the odd flier will be drawn in with a little more experience on the bench. You'll be putting five shots near an inch or better at 100y before you...
PB, I had great results with the 30-06 and R17 with 180g bullets. A nice accurate 2850fps in a 23.5" bbl with Interlocks and NBTs. Also it went great with 115-117g bullets in my 250 Sav AI which would be similar to your 257 Rob.
I liked it for 130-150g bullets in the 270 Win as well.
Of late...
I suspect you're going to see better accuracy with a little more powder and velocity.
How are you finding shooting it over the bench? I struggled to get good groups at first, because I was shooting with the same bench technique I'd learned shooting 222 Rem and 308 Win rifles. Once I learned how...
P, let us know how it goes!
I'll be trying them with H4895 when they land here. Certainly a sleek looking bullet which should make some nice speeds.
I should be able to stretch the OAL in my rifle with the modified magazine.
I didn't suffer any setback, and I was applying a firm FCD crimp.
The FTX was just an experiment. I stick with flat points and HPs now. Not too sure there's any real world advantage to the FTX in such a chunky bullet.
I just used them cause I had them.
You're right Dwh if you run them crimped at the cannelure in a full length case, they'll jam in a lever action.
Loaded short and FCD crimped there were sub moa at 125y over the bench. Loaded as such they also functioned perfectly and killed pigs stone dead.
Brian FWIW I was loading 50g of H4198 in untrimmed cases with the 325FTX and was getting around 2020fps with an 18" bbl.
I got around the short trimming by loading the FTX below the cannelure and using the Lee FCD to crimp tight.
