It’s absolutely possible, But only once 😉.. Even using something like one of the Absolute Hammer bullets that generate impressive speeds, I think it cant be achieved. I’ve never found the 7-08 lacking much in the energy dept for the game I use it for. Deer, black bear and hogs have all...
Has anyone used the new design grand slam bullets on game? I was gifted 220 of the 160 grain 7mm. I was thinking of loading them in the 280 Ackley for hunting. I read a lot of folks trash them since the redesign, and some love them. Too stout for deer?
Nothing dramatic, just strolled in at 75 yards about 20 minutes after legal shooting. 10 point WV public land. Also the new meat pole is getting a workout.
Sunday dinner before WV rifle season opener. Everything from the pit boss. TX style brisket, scalloped potatoes and baked beans. The brisket went 14 hours in hickory and post oak.
We finally got tired of fumbling around with meat poles made from whatever we found lying around. This time we sunk two schedule 40 iron pipes on the ground. The crossbeam and pulley attachment rod are welded steel. The pulley slides along the rod at the very top. The stainless steel meat hooks...
Don’t be afraid to give that ABLR a long jump to the lands. I would start no closer than .075” off, but I bet you’ll end up being closer to .100” jump. It can be a fussy bullet to get to shoot well.
Took several hours at 225 to get pull apart tender. But it turned out very good. Not as juicy as pulled pork, but not dry either. I like it lightly sauced so I can taste the meat, smoke and rub, the grandkids like it dripping with sauce. Put on slider buns with pickled onions. In the future I’ll...
I’ve never given it much thought because a long shot for me is 250 yards. I always thought water or other debris in the tube would affect accuracy/ dependability more than a piece of tape. But according to outdoor life field test:
Group Center Shift Taped vs Un-Taped
Savage .17 Hornet: 0.193...
The 108 ELD-M turns coyote insides into slush puppies. Mine is getting launched by LeverEvolution. I’ll have to look up my speed in my notes, but I remember its pretty darn zippy.
Have a few ready to go.
First up is a red slate over glass in a laminate of oak, cherry and walnut with one of my waterproof strikers. The red slate has a “marble” look and it goes from soft, subtle clucks and purrs to loud raspy yelps and piercing cuts. It sounds like a mix between common grey...
Finally going to give this a shot. Smoking a whole deer shoulder for pulled bbq. Plan is to season and smoke to about 170, or whenever the bark is set, then wrap in foil and braise with apple juice. Then shred and sauce for pulled bbq sandwiches
I would start with H4831-SC, you’ll have no trouble finding a good load. There’s plenty of others, like RL22, and 26, but you’ll likely not find them. I found Ramshot magnum to be excellent, especially with 160 grain and up.
