    Something new.

Beautiful wood! I'll assume it is hand-checkered? That is a work of art right there!

    26 Nosler ?

I keep reading the posts and going back to the OP and pic. Sure sounds like a 6.5 STW, but the part about non-belted and standard '06 length action has me scratching my head. I sure hope HTDUCK doesn't see this.

wondering about contender barrel in 6.5

That is a beautiful piece of work right there! I used to shoot IHMSA (thus my handle) and when I retired, I sent my .30-30 barrel to SSK Industries. Now it is a .309JDJ and a deer hammer. J.D. Jones and P.O. Ackley have a special place in my heart. :)

    Lightweight 308?

BK - I'm also considering the .308 due to availability of ammo in a SHTF scenario. Might as well have something that I can feed with a common cartridge. Guy - good info on the twist. Let's go one step farther. If I were to go with a heavier bullet and subsonic velocity either with or without...

    Lightweight 308?

Deer season isn't even over yet, and I'm already thinking about what to build next. Dang RADD. After hunting in the timber in Missouri again this year I'm seriously thinking about building a 20" or 21" lightweight .308Win on a Rem700 SA. 30cal is the only caliber that I don't have in...

25-06 and 115 Berger VLDH vs. Texas Whitetail

Scotty, I've said it before on several forums . . . You know that cartoon devil that sits on your shoulder and whispers in your ear - keeping the RADD all stirred up? Well, my personal devil bears a striking resemblance to Howard. Just ask my wife.  -Gene

25-06 and 115 Berger VLDH vs. Texas Whitetail

Now that we have a sausage deer in the freezer, I have another 360 days to get that rifle working with a 110AB or I may look at the 115 Ballistic Tip. The Berger did the job just fine, and it was a curiosity that I needed to see perform. But, I'm in the camp where I like my bullet to get in...

25-06 and 115 Berger VLDH vs. Texas Whitetail

Thanks, fellas. The bullet performed as expected from various comments around the interweb. The only thing that bothers me a little is the fact that there was no blood trail. My daughter shot a buck last year from the same stand, same angle with a 6.5 Grendel and 120 NBT Hunting bullet...

.25-06 Remington performance 22" Barrel vs 24" Barrel

I have a 22" Shilen barrel on my Mauser 98 in .25-06. Last weekend I finally had a chance to chrono the loads. 115gr Berger Hunting VLD at 2950fps.

Very Impressed with .270 130gr AB Expansion

I've taken 2 deer and my son has taken 1 with my 270 and 130ABs. And the results were similar, just devastating. Love those ABs!

Blemished 7mm LRAB 168's at SPS.. EDIT: They're gone.

Woohoo! Blind hog/acorn syndrome -- I scored a couple bags for a change. My 280AI likes the 140AB and 168CCs so well, I can't wait to see what these will do.

    280AI Load Development

Tim, I pulled parts of a post I made from earlier in the year with data, pics, etc. My rifle really likes the 140AB and the 168 Custom Competitions with H4831. The results were so good that I stopped working with RL22. Haven't tried the 160AB or 168ABLR yet. I ran a 500yd ladder test...

    260 Ackley build

Thanks, fellas. I've been tinkering with the load over on the Reloading forum, and we've got a shooter for sure. Took my daughter Katy out for some range time yesterday, and Bambi is in very serious trouble!

    260AI fire forming load

I shot this group on Saturday. If the dummy on the trigger could control his breathing, this would have been an awesome 200yd group. Regardless, I think I've found the secret combination with this bullet. :) Same load, just tinkering with seating depth. 50.0gr H4831 Fed GM210M primer 120gr...

final zero 300 rum for elk season.

Wow, that might be some kind of record! Love those accubonds, they are finicky until you find the sweet spot. Very nice rifle and load!

    Bad day at the range

Been there done that. Matter of fact, I sent my 35P back to Oehler this week. Too many nicks and close calls I guess, unit just gave up.
