Got some fire forming done and started a load work-up this morning. The barrel is still very green, with only 70 rounds down the tube.
She did not like the 140AB, but these 120gr Ballistic Tips are very encouraging. (that's a 1" dot) :)
Thanks, but not necessary. I haven't noticed any difference in regular vs. SC, in other rifles I've tested.
I built this rifle specifically with the 129gr ABLR in mind, whenever they finally hit the shelves. Picked up some 140 AB overruns a few weeks ago from SPS, we'll see what they do in...
Thanks very much!
I just got the rifle back from my gunsmith last night, polished up the chamber to remove the burr. Going to get some more rounds down the tube this week, then maybe do a 500yd ladder test work-up with the 140 AB on Saturday.
For the final round - AI pressure. I searched for a SAAMI value, but only coming up with 60k psi for the 260 Remington. Not sure what 260 AI pressure would be.
Thanks,

Thanks for the QL info, FOTIS.
I checked the water capacity tonight, 55.3gr water in an unsized, fire-formed case.
Would you be so kind to run a QL on:
26" Barrel
H-4831 powder
Nosler 120 Ballistic Tip and 140gr Accubond
Thanks!
Got a message back from my gunsmith, said it's stainless gouging from the reamer. Taking it over to him this afternoon to get cleaned up. Learn something new everyday.
At the range this morning doing break in and forming.
Lapua brass
Fed 210M primer
48.0 gr H4831
120gr Nosler BT seated into lands
Forming is going ok, and accuracy is very good but take a look at the brass. The marks arent very deep but have me somewhat concerned. I have fire formed lots of...
Yeah, I don't know how both of my offspring turned out left-eye dominant. I blame my wife's side of the family for that.
She picked out the stock. I offered any variety of wood, fiddleback maple, bastogne walnut, etc. But she wanted the blue laminate, and turned out pretty cool I...
This is the rifle I've been putting together for my daughter. Picked her up last night. Can't wait for the weekend range time.
.260 Ackley Improved
Stainless Remington 700 Long Action, trued
26" Shilen Select Match barrel #5 contour 1:8
3-gill brake (by our own IdahoCTD, thanks...
I've found recommendations for 140gr bullets, using a max charge of .260 Remington published load. And this is basically the method I used when forming my .280AI brass - a max load of .280. So my tentative plan is to run a book max 50 gr H4831 for the 120gr bullet.
Just got word from my gunsmith that my daughter's 260AI will be ready next week. So, time to get working on some fire form loads to do barrel break-in.
I have a surplus of 120gr Ballistic Tips (also shoot them in my 6.5 Grendel) so this is what I'll use to form brass and possibly...
Thanks. I had seen the specs on the website, but I didn't realize the first production run hasn't been done. I was mostly curious about length from base to ogive. Guess I'll just have to be patient until I can get a box. :)
Does anyone happen to have a 129gr ABLR, and could measure the length and length to ogive for me?
I'm just curious, to compare vs. 130,140gr Berger VLDs.
The box of 130gr Bergers I have show 0.612 to the ogive according to my comparator
Thanks!

The .280AI in my avatar. I have several custom rifles, but that is the first one where I collected the parts and cobbled it together. Like catching lightning in a bottle on the first try. She shoots better than I can, sub-MOA out to 900yards (farthest I've tried so far) even with me behind...
I was wondering about this very thing. It will be on a Rem700 long action, so magazine maximum shouldn't be a problem.
Isn't there a rule of thumb about minimum bullet seating depth? The bullet should be seated into the case mouth at least as deep as the caliber: in this case bullet seated...
I've just about gathered all the groceries for my .260AI build, and wondering about chamber dimensions.
It's a chicken and egg kind of thing - I can't make a 260AI dummy round to send to my gunsmith until I can fireform brass. So, looking for advice on what instructions to give him. I want...
No worries, I get that alot - my screen name goes back to my IHMSA days some 20+ years ago. And the recent popularity of the Creedmoor cartridge made me consider it, but would just be weird and have to explain too many times.
This particular gun will be for my 14yr old. She already...
