With the thoughts of a new build in the works I'm trying to decide if I should add a brake to the gun. It will be a 7wsm witha a 24" barrel. I plan on using the rifle for deer hunting out west and for target shooting. I want one for recoil reduction but I know they are loud for the shooter...
The past week has had brass, dies, bullets and scope rings come in the mail. I'm planning on sending the barreled action out this week to the smith for the new barrel.
Looking at a 24" match grade barrel, 1:8.5 twist, factory contour and brake. I'm going to put it in the factory stock for now...
Since starting the post, I'm leaning more and more towards a 7wsm. Looking at bullets and the 160 Accubond and 175 Partition look great. I read a lot about the ELD-x but I'm not sold on it as a hunting bullet yet. If I could get the 160 Accubonds shooting, I don't think any animal I plan on...
Great points Songdog. I'm leaning towards the 160 AccuBond for my bullet of choice if it were to shoot well. I know mag length is going to be an issue.
I was able to look at my 7mmRM magazine and a WSM side by side. The WSM is .075" wider and the lip of the mag is longer than the 7mmRM.
With that being said, I'm starting to wonder if I should rebarrel to 7mmRM instead of 7WSM. I already have the dies for the RM and one mag for it.
No...
Great point ShadeTree. I will write that question down. I looked a lot at the Tikka shooters forum and there were 3 smiths that keep coming up as guys to work with. I contacted all 3 of them and they both said it was no problem.
One reason for the 7wsm idea is to have more length to seat the bullets closer to the lands and not have to worry about mag length issues.
I will contact hells canyon and see what he says. I'm just not understanding the issue either. I'm guessing I will need a new mag if I go 7wsm but that...
They both said that the WSM case will not work because it is thicker than the RemMag round??? Both said it is a feeding issue? I'm not sure why and they both didn't explain it very well.
I have called 4 smiths about this build and 2 of them say that the 7mmRM can be turned into a 7wsm. The other two said that it can not be converted into a 7wsm?? I'm really confused on this one?
I'm in the very beginning process of rebarreling a Tikka T3 from 7mmRM to 7WSM.
As with any project, there might be unexpected turns and pauses in the process, but as of right now, the plan is to rebarrel my action, replace the scope, and buy a new stock for the project. The goal is to build...
Thanks guys. This project may take a while to complete but I'm kinda thinking about rebarreling my Tikka. Put it in a nice stock and add a nice scope for hunting. From there, it would be my out west deer rifle.
Now to pick a barrel and smith to do the work. This is new territory for me so...
Thinking about this round. Please tell me everything you know about it. Thinking about building a deer rifle for hunting where shots of 400-500 yards are possible.
My wife drew a bear tag after 6 years. I plan on apply for whitetail in the Black Hills and mule deer in Nebraska. If I draw and fill them, it will be a great fall.
