Hi Guy,
We sometimes take elk with smaller calibres, like the .257 wby. Heck, I saw a cow shot by a butcher with a 22 mag. I won't enter the argument as to whether you can kill with small calibres, of course you can. But, I recommend at least a 7mm MAG. I am not really a 30-06 fan, but it is...
WOW!
Thanks for all of the information, Quickload, the H1000 and 175 gr advice and the pointers to the WBY forum. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.

Need some advice.
One of my close friends just bought a rifle. Sako action, .300 WBY cartridge necked down to 7mm. I know that wildcatters used to use this for long distance, and the person that he bought the rifle from hunted elk in Co with it.
I can go the standard route in working up a...
that sucks. Unfortunately, it happens way more often than we would like. Had that happen with a deer in ca. My 12 year old son shot cross canyon, and by the time we got to it, a slob killer (like that name!) tagged it. We let it go. I told my son what my father-in-law told me. There are...
Well, on my ranch, I recommend 7mm mag or greater. But, lots of elk have been taken with smaller calibers. However, i have to assume that I will not get a perfect broadside, or neck shot placement, or ear hole. i want an exit hole and a blood trail. We have killed cow elk with a .22 mag, but...
for what it is worth.
I like the nightforce. I like ziess diavari and swarovski better. All are brighter that the leupolds that I have seen. the conquest is an ok scope but nowhere near as good as the diavari or the Swaro, but I think better than Leupy. I would like to see the night force...
Pretty hard to be understanding with all of the antis around. I read somewhere that about 20% of the populations hunts and about 20-25% are antis. The rest are in the middle, and we do not need the negative press garnered when hunters break the law and poach. In fact, they should be referred...
Had mine for about 10 years. Had to replace the jaws once, and sometimes the larger mags need some help getting out. Die replacement is a dream, and the press is really quite nice with great pressure.

Ok, just read another post and decided to try my luck with e-tips on my infamous .300 wby mags (with new scope mounts). I am shooting the 180 gr bullet, using IMR 7828 and Retumbo. Both are slow. I caught a piece of advice on another load about loading them shorter, and also using the mid...
Yep, makes a lot of sense. In Ca, we are closer to 10% and they even give the info on the number of points... IE most people get forked horns, and about 5 % get 3x3s or better. (6 points for WT hunters)... I use that data when talking to hunters about hunting my ranch.

Have to agree with Guy on this one. I use the sling as an aid to shooting, not just to help me carry a rifle. His selection is about perfect in my book.

one of my favorite guns. I use 180 gr Partitions, and ABs. Federal mag primers and imr 7828, my guns like hot loads, so work up carefully. Also, I push the cartridge size out to where the limit is the magazine... lots of freebore in most wbys.

Guys,
i am looking to hire a few guides for the next few seasons. Normally, I have just used guides that live in my area, but as I seem to have developed some online friends on this forum, I thought that I would open up the possibilities here. Pay is only $150 a day, and you can keep any tips...
Hi there,
I own 1 and load for another as well. Norma makes Weatherby, Nosler and Norma brass. I do use a belt bulge die from Larry Willis. It is worth the money. I also weigh each piece, use a primer pocket former, and a flash hole deburrer.
I would definitely recommend using one of the...
Been loading a long time, 15 years or so. Use Forster press, an RCBS press, Forster dies and lathe, RCBS station, electronic scale and dispenser, nosler bullets, IMR, Hogdon and Retumbo powder, 2 custom reloading tables with Corian tops,.... and i forget the Chrono maker.

Greg,
I agree with the dual dovetails, but take a look at the conetrol mounts.

Great looking, strength and very adjustable. IMHO, the prettiest mounts on the planet. I have them on 3 different mark Vs from 7mm to .257... Just broke a luepy mount on my .300
