I’ve got a standoff with rings and bases going on right now, but when it’s over I’ll be putting the first rounds through a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter in 270 Win. The DNZ rings and base should be here by end of week. Hopefully I’ll get to the range, if not the range then a farm I coyote hunt...
I agree, I’ve not seen it until now. When I called Talley and DNZ they did say each thousandth of an inch higher or lower equals roughly 1 MOA. It was the first time trying them, there won’t be a second for me. They were one piece rings and bases. I knew better but was a bonehead, and tried them...
There’s nothing to apologize for, I thought I was losing my mind too when I tried bore sighting it. The Monstrum rings seemed sturdy enough, but their tolerances are way too lax. People shouldn’t run into this with model specific rings. As always, saving a few dollars cost me almost double.
The...
I have a Vanguard Sporter in 270 Win that I bought new a few months ago. Hasn’t been fired yet. I also have a couple new Fullfield II’s, and 3 new Nikons on the shelf. I went with a new Burris 4.5x14x42.
Well, I’m ashamed to say I didn’t go with my old stand by Talleys. I went cheap for no good...
I don’t understand how someone could put barrels like that out the door, much less charge those prices for them, THEN justify it! I don’t think age is the culprit with his crap work. I’m 54 years old and am just starting to feel like I have a clue as to what I’m doing. I’m speechless to be quite...
Seeing as you already have the Partitions, I’d say your search is over for your bullet. If you simply want to try the 180gr BT have at it too. It’s a tough bullet in its own right. You’ll be fine with either.
First, welcome to the forum. I’m partial to the 270 Win and have 2 of them. Your 4350 will treat you very well with either 130, or 140 grain bullets. You’ll get a lot of enjoyment from your new rifle for years to come, and the 270 Win just flat works.
I use E-Tips in .224, .277, .284, and .308 calibers. I’ve found that they perform best with slower powders. Slower than usual burn rates have let me get higher velocities before pressuring out. Nothing crazy slow, just a couple steps slower on the burn rate chart. They have also seemed less...
The two 7mm RM’s I have aren’t too bad. One has an X-Caliber barrel and pushes the shoulder forward .007-.008” when firing new brass, and a stock model 700 pushes it forward .012” respectively. The X-Caliber barrel also has a somewhat short throat. 175 grain ELD-X’s touch the lands at 3.350”...
Welcome to our group Steve. I’m glad your health has returned. There are a lot of great people here. Many friends. Scotty is one of the best without doubt.
I meant to mention this but didn’t. Ideally I want my belted cartridges to headspace on the shoulder, not the belt. Headspacing on the shoulder lengthens brass life dramatically.
The Hornady comparator is what I use for headspace on all rounds I load for. It will give you your chambers exact dimensions after measuring a fired case. It will also tell you how much your brass stretches during firing by comparing new and fired brass.
If you want general headspace readings...
I’ve hunted Guam in the South Pacific.
In 18 months I killed 37 hogs and a 6 point Philippine Sambar Deer. All with my bow while still hunting on the ground. No blinds or hunting from trees. I was the Chief Conservation Officer for Andersen AFB from ‘93 to ‘95. The bow was a Golden Eagle...
I start at .020” if magazine length permits. After determining max load or node I’ll change seating depth to check impact on groups. It’s just my rule of thumb though, where I start. You can start longer or shorter if you prefer.
Edit: it works great too. My last one shot group with a 7mm RM...
I’m so far behind on projects right now I don’t even know where to start. I have this rifle, a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter II in 270 Win, and 2 AR’s from Bear Creek, and all 4 are new and haven’t been fired yet. 45 caliber round ball barrel for my Seneca that’s half finished, 4 powders I...
