.257 120 grain Grand Slam Discontinued?

I still have a few of the OLD STYLE .257 120 GS in case I need to shoot an elephant with my 25-06. Those things PENETRATE. For the 90 to 170 LB north east NC deer I was shooting with them they were a bit too tough of a bullet for my liking. I was running them at 3000 fps from my 25-06 and they...

    Old primers

I started handloading in the 1970s and don't remember seeing that style of box. Funny how some of these old primers will still work fine. I was given some CCI small pistol primers that I know had to be made in the late 60s to early 70s. They had been stored in a out building that you could...

    Bullets for a 03A3?

"I haven't had that rifle in years as I had someone offer me way more than I paid for it." That is the reason that I have 2 instead of 3 of them. LOL

    Bullets for a 03A3?

All of my 1903A3s really shoot well with this load as well as my M1 Garand of which I use LC Match cases. Remington case, CCI 200 primer, 48.0 grs IMR 4895, Nosler 155 gr Custom Comp BTHP, COAL 3.334 and I use a medium Lee Factory Crimp. By medium I mean setting up the die with the crimping...

Flat base vs. boat tail bullets

In my experience some rifles just don't like BT bullets. I have had a Shilen barrel 25-06 Rem for a number of years and it just does not like ANY BT bullet. Put a flat base in it and it is a bug hole shooter waaaaaaaaay out there. It does not really matter what bullet you use as long as you...

    Static and dealing with it

Now you also know why you are NEVER to use anything plastic a around real black powder. One little static spark can ruin your day. I use the dryer sheets also. Here is another little tip. If you use a media in your tumbler that leaves a lot of clinging dust to your cases just cut up some 1"...

    Loading leftovers

Yes I have done it. Biggest surprise I think I ever got was a fire forming load for my newly gotten T/C Contender MGM made 14" 30-30AI barrel. I had some IMR 4320 powder that I never used for anything that I tried in something that did not work out. I had some 147 gr FMJ bullets that had been...

    8x57 Testing / Experimenting

Sweet looking rifle. With that 200 Accubond you would be set for anything in North America. I see you are in WV. I went to college in Bluefield WV and lived in Richwood for about 3 1/2 years. That Cherry River area is some RUFF country. I deer hunted while in Richwood but never killed...

    8x57 Testing / Experimenting

What rife are you shooting? I have found with different make Military 8x57JS rifles that this load usually shoots really good and kills deer great. 47.5 grs IMR 4895, CCI 200, 175 gr Sierra pro hunter, COAL 3.040 and I use a medium Lee Factory Crimp. These rifles have long throats and the Lee...

    Varget and the 30-30 ?

Varget should work in the 30-30 Win rifle. It is what I use in a 14" T/C Contender pistol barrel 6mm-225 Winchester with 80 gr bullets. It has about the same capacity as the 30-30 Win case.

    >38 Special self-defense bullet

I like and carry 135 gr. Speer Gold Dot SB (short barrel) bullet pushed with Unique to 850 fps over my chrno at 10 feet from my 2" barrel Taurus 856UL. It shoots to the sights and is very accurate.

    New Woods, New Muzzeloader

Great story and pictures. After quite a few years of not using a muzzle loader to hunt with I got back into it last year. My hunting situation changed and now I am hunting around home in east TN. Pulled out of the safe my OLD knight T-Bolt mag 50 cal. that has a conversion kit for 209 priming. I...

West Virginia Firearms Season - 3 Weeks in the Woods

Good report. Glad you all had a great season. I went to college in Bluefield WV and lived in Richwood WV for 4 years. I got a chuckle out of the "thankful it was a down hill drag". For those that don't know there are only two directions in WV. Straight up hill and straight down hill. LOL That...

    7.62x39 and H110

Most accurate load I have ever found for the 7.62x39 out of 3 different SKS rifles is Lapua case, Rem. 9 1/2 primer, 29 grs H322, Hornady 123 SP .310 diameter bullet and I use a Lee Factory Crimp die and crimp in the cannelure. This is a max load according to Hodgdon data but the reason is you...

Reloading 115 gr Em nlg hi tell coat 9 mm

You need some flare to seat a bullet to keep from shaving the bullet or buckling you case. That is what the Lee Factory Crimp Die is for. It will iron out the flare and taper crimp and size the case into speck.

    38 Special, FBI Load +P

 It was my first 44 mag for me. I had wore out a 6" Dan Wesson 357 mag and that took a lot of shooting mostly with full house loads but I could shoot a walnut off a post at 50 yards easy off hand with it. I was young and had good eyes and steady hands. The only 44 mag I had ever shot was a...

Reloading 115 gr Em nlg hi tell coat 9 mm

First question that I always ask. Have you read the instructions? You should be able to screw the die up away from the case mouth enough. I have never used the expander die as a powder through but it is the same die except you stick the powder dumper into the top of it.

    38 Special, FBI Load +P

Wear some good gloves. I have a Rossi snub nose 357 mag and with full house 158s it is a hand full so to speak. First time I ever shot it was with some factory CCI lawman 125 gr HP and that stuff was HOT. 50 rounds and my hand was numb. By the way with that stuff the pistol shot about 4" low 2"...

    First kill with the 338

Looking good. I have never had the opportunity to hunt elk but have killed hundreds of white tail and it sure makes it easy if you can get a vehicle of some sort right up to them for extrication. Where I have done most of my deer hunting was in east NC on a big farm and most of the time I could...

    38 Special, FBI Load +P

Yes you could about add any city or agency name to "load" and it would be the same thing. Winchester did produce this load. Who knows they probably got their idea for it from Elmer Keith with some of his heavy loaded 38 Special loads which evolved into 357 Mag. I don't know about him getting...
