    Mil vs moa

I've seen/ heard the terms used when referencing reticles in scopes. All of my scopes are moa, but I know many of the long range scopes use mils. What are any advantages/disadvantages of either type? As a base line, I'm not a PRS guy but I get the opportunity to shoot long range (out to 500)...

    And yet again....

I delivered to my LGS today and saw they had gotten their powder/bullet order in for the month. IMR 4350 is on the shelf for $71.95/lb. No joke. I know Alliant powders are very high but it appears to be spreading out to others more and more. Let me add, the guy who runs the shop isn't a...

    My Christmas/ Valentines Day present

My wife told me at Christmas that my present was going to be late and it was too big for a box. I let it ride and, quite frankly, had forgotten about it until yesterday when she announced out of the blue that I was going on a pheasant hunting trip with my two stepsons. She knew I have always...

    Score!

I called my closest Scheels yesterday to see if they still had any 8 lb jugs of Retumbo I saw a month or so ago. The man I talked to said they didn't, but he DID have Varget and H4350 for the same price, $349. I asked him to hold two Varget and one 4350 for me and I would get them today. In...

    Range session after work

I am attending a fun match tomorrow, an egg shoot. You have 5 eggs at 250 yds, 10 rounds of ammo, and 10 minutes. Shoot from a bench and use bags, bipod, whatever. Anyway, after work I took the rifle I'm using, Tikka T3x Tactical 6.5 CM, to the range to verify zero. I fired 3 rounds , ran the...

    T-giving range session

After lunch yesterday I went to the range to try out some loads and my Garmin chrono. Rifles used were my Tikka T3x Tactical 6.5CM and a T3 Lite 30-06. The Tactical is topped with a Nightforce 8-32 and the 06 has a Bushnell 3-9x Trophy. I developed a Creedmoor load using 147 ELD-Ms and StaBall...

    250 Savage shooters

I was at the Scheels store in Overland Park, Kansas, yesterday and they had Hornady 250 Savage ammo. I think it was $44.95/box but don't hold me to that, I'm old and looked at a lot of stuff. Anyway, if anyone needs some, or knows someone who is, you might check with a Scheels near you or...

    Tikka T3x 223/ADI 55 Blitzkings

This past Saturday I bought a new rifle, one of the Bass Pro/Cabelas exclusive model Tikka T3x's in 223. I wanted it because it has a threaded barrel for my suppressor and a 1:8 twist so I can use heavier bullets. For optics, I mounted a Vortex Viper 6-24x50. I took it to the range last...

    Hornady 200 spire point/ 358 Win

After work yesterday, I made a quick run to the range to get some rifles ready for our early antlerless season this weekend. My Browning BLR 358 Win put three Hornady 200 spire points in .61, two in virtually one hole. The load is 46 gr H322 in Lapua cases ignited by CCI 200 primers . The...

    30 cal Sierra 165 SBT's

Some family members and I had a range session yesterday. One of the loads I was testing used Sierra 165 SBT's in a 308 using Shooter's Workd Precision Rifle powder. It was fired from a Tikka T3x with a sporter barrel. These bullets were some made by my son who works at Sierra. It should be...

    My dog Frankie

In 2007 my dad died of cancer and shortly afterward I got a new puppy from the pound. My dad was called Frankie as a kid so I named my new dog in his honor. It was immediately clear that Frankie was very intelligent and could learn things without actually teaching him. Over the years, he was...

    Buck rubs or.....?

Our deer season ended January 15th but on our farm we have continued to find what appear to me to be buck rubs. This has been consistent up to, and including, today. I know it's the wrong time of year and we haven't seen any deer with real world antlers in person or on trail cameras. I...

Another successful hunt from my recliner

There I was, in my recliner, enjoying my coffee, when this guy decided to trot through our pasture. I grabbed my Remington 783 223 loaded with 55 gr Blitzkings and explained to him that wasn't a good idea. No fawns for him.

    Good day at the range

My oldest stepson, Josh, and I went to a range yesterday that offers a 500 yd distance. We shot steel targets (provided by the range) and some paper. Sierra 169gr Matchkings, 44 gr Varget, 100 yds. This was my first try with this relatively new bullet. I left the target in Josh's truck so I...

    6.5-06

My LGS recently acquired a rifle in this caliber. It's a 98 Mauser action with unknown brand barrel and trigger in a walnut stock. I have known of this caliber for many years but never owned one among my 6.5s. In researching it after seeing the rifle, it seems to me it is similar in performance...

    Hornady 158 XTP/20 in. barrel

Shot out of my Henry Big Boy at about 15 yds into water jugs. Load was 14.6 gr of H110, CCI small magnum pistol primer. Average velocity was 1397 fps, largest diameter was .567. I didn't measure the one wild petal, just the main portion. Retained weight was 139.2 gr.
