243 Winchester pet loads ?

Going to use my little .243 Winchester on whitetails next fall, loading the the 95 or 100 grain Partition...what powders are you guy's having good luck with ?

I have had good results with several powders. IMR4350, H4350, IMR4831, H4831 and IMR7828. Hunter worked very well with the 85 gr. TSX. I have reports that R-26 is one to try and I will be doing so soon.

I used IMR7828 in my sons 243 with 100 gr partitions , before it was available in the ssc version . I had problems with highly compressed powder charges . I think the IMR7828ssc will cure the compressed powder problem .

With 24" barrels the slower powders work great with the 95-100 grain bullets, but as barrels get shorter so does the need for faster burn rate powders, muzzle blast can equal that of a 7 Mag with the 20" and shorter barrels with the slow powder family........

24" barrels Imr7828ssc, RL26, IMR7977, H1000 types, 45-48 grains doses

22" barrels H4831sc, very temp stable will be your friend as will IMR4831 but a bit temp sensitive, 43-44 grain doses

20" barrels is where I see the 4350's, RL17 and really shine, 38-42 grain doses.

I just started loading for my Remington 700 BDL 243win. that I inherited from my dad. Worked up a load:
R-P case
Federal 210 GM primer
41.0grs. of RL17 powder
Barnes 80gr. TTSX bullet seated 2.620" COAL.
0.300" 3-shot group at 100yds.
Haven't had a chance to chronograph load yet but happy with grouping. Always in the past shot factory Remington 100gr, Core-Lokts and factory Federal 85gr, Trophy Copper ammo.

Lots of good load here. My contribution is an 85 grain Sierra BTHP over 37.5 grains of IMR-4064 set at 2.224 from base to ogive. My rifle has a 24" barrel. This gives good MOA or better results and is my go to load. Brass doesn't seem to matter as long as it is consistently trimmed, but most of what I have is Federal.

This should be a great whitetail load, but alas, while I have carried this rifle looking for coues deer, I haven't harvested one yet.

I worked up a good load for my Marlin XS7 .243 last fall. 95 gr. BT over 36.5 gr. IMR 4064 powder with Win LR primer. The chrono clocked it at 2930 fps, with very low SD. Very accurate load.

I used that load to bag a doe at 11:00 on opening morning, and then this dude at about 3:30 that afternoon. He ran about 75 yards and piled up.

Thank you! Glad I found this forum. I've been using the BT's for years in my .22-250. Just now starting to use them for some larger game.

The 90 gr BT shouldn't be overlooked either. I developed an accurate load with H4831sc in my Ruger No. 1.

H4350 is the most temperature stable powder I have tested in the 243 with 95 NBT. RL19 can have big swings in temps over 80 and under 25........

Best accuracy for me was at 2825fps in 20" barrel

2900fps in 22" barrel

SO 24" barrel should be bout 2980 +/-.

I'm getting 3030 fps with 41 grains of H4350..

7828SSC and a 95 BT will hammer 3100 pretty easily. Super accurate too.
