Hello again! I have been continuously working with my tikka 300 wsm and some different handloads. I've been running 180 partitions and ballistic tips since I bought the gun-" and Most loads I shoot out of it for 3 shots hover right around an inch with these bullets and h4350. I have been wanting to try some Barnes in it because I'm a huge fan of the 85s in my .243. I haven't been able to find much for data online and do not own a Barnes manual. My question is what is your guys experience with the 300 wsm and 165 ttsx? If you guys could share your experiences or some data for me to start with it would be greatly appreciated! The powders I have to work with are h4350, imr4350, imr4831, and re19. Thanks!

Looking at my Barnes manual reveals these powder charges:
165 tsx

IMR4350, 61gr min 2889 fps - 68.0 max 3148 fps

Your other powders aren't mentioned in my Barnes manual for 165 or 168 gr bullets. The good thing is that your IMR 4350 produces the highest velocity of any powder listed in the Barnes manual.

I generally use heavier bullets in my .300 WSM.

Regards, Guy

I almost always shot 180s in my various 300 WSMs. However, almost everyone for whom I worked up a load wanted to shoot 165s or 168s. They do generate a tad more velocity, and being monometal, they do maintain integrity at higher velocities. I haven't heard anyone complain about them failing when they took game with them. They'll work just fine for you, I have no doubt. Check out the Barnes web site for further information, however.

This does sound like a good go to bullet in the 300 WSM.

Would a 165 E-Tip or Partition do just as well?

Have been planning a lot of experimentation with the lighter 150-165 grain bullets in my .300 WSM as well.

168 Tipped tsx Are very long bullets. They take up a lot of Powder space. I would not Expect Exceptional Velocity.

I have 165 gr tipped. From what I have read from Barnes the ogive on the 165 is better suited for the 300 wsm than the 168. I've messed around with 180s and got decent/acceptable results and have done the same with 165 Partition. Most groups have been .7 to 1.25" at 100. I have a couple decent loads in my log I can fall back on but the ttsx project is just out of curiosity. If I can get them to shoot better than the 180 or 165 Partition loads I have I'll stick with Barnes. If not no big deal. Thanks for the input so far!

RL19 or anything in the 4350 range should be excellent for the 300 WSM. My best friend runs the 165 AB over RL19 for about 3125. Not exceptionally fast, but very accurate.

3100 would be plenty for me. At this point I'm just looking for a load that is consistently sub MOA. I need just one go to load instead of changing my mind on loads all the time. Haha

Thanks guys for the data. I loaded some ammo and shot today. I started low and worked up to 67 grains. Most the loads were an inch to .7 with my best load being 66.5 at about .6" 3 shot group at 100. So I will be pretty happy if that load will repeat itself.

I have load worked up for my 300 WSM with a 180 gr PT, for general use at the range I use a 165 gr Hornady Interlock SP with IMR-4350 and they shoot really good for me.

Both of my 300WSM like 66.5gr RE17 under a 168 TTSX for 3100fps (22" bbl). Accuracy is 1/2 to 3/4 MOA. Really nothing that can't be done with that combo.
