I bought some 250gr Partitions for my 358Win and did a quick load using Tac powder, CCI250gr Primers, Win brass, OAL 2.839", so I could hunt the last day of the rifle season tomorrow with the 250gr load. I am going to work with after hunting season, H4895, IMR4895 and AA2495BR. I did not know what to expect, but I knew that my Ruger Hawkeye has shot everything I have put through it pretty well. This load gave me a group of .7545" at a velocity average of 2403fps. Surprisingly it did not recoil bad and man does that round hit like a hammer and give me so much while having a very manageable recoil. I am sighted 2.8" high at 100yds giving me a zero of 200yds with a point blank of 255yds and the highest point above line of sight is 2.8" from 97yds to 129yds. At 260yds I will lay the cross hair on the top of shoulder and good to 325yds. Might not see anything tomorrow, but I will be ready to put a big hole through a deer or hog for sure if they show up. :)

Mike,

The lil' 358 Win with a 250 gr PT at 2400 fps is the Hammer of Thor! Good luck tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure my Whelen isn't going much faster with 250s.

Yes, this ought to be a hammer. I am getting ready for tomorrow.

Well, no luck. At 4:30am when I was going down a dirt road to my area to hunt a doe bolted across the road with an 8 point buck right on her tail. They turned up the side of the road toward me and ran right past my window along side of me, no more than about 3 yards from the side of my truck, as though I did not exist. I said to myself, "this is going to be a good day." Well, I saw nothing all morning. Had to leave and go to work around 10:00am but I had fun just anticipating that something might happen. I already can't wait till next year to make up for this one. Yep, I got it bad, will have to do some shooting to hold me off this spring and early summer. Man, I am looking forward to trying out this load on game. Well, I hope you all have had a great hunting season, I did by just being in the woods. At least that is what I am telling myself so I don't go into depression.

Mike, man, that 250 at 2400 is AWESOME! That is some really serious HP out of the 358. Seems like TAC might be a powder to try! Might have to give it a whirl with some 225's also. Scotty

It works great with 225gr or 250gr especially getting velocities. My 225gr load is trucking a 2552fps.

Wow, that is screaming for a 358 Win. I will have to try it out when I get a chance. I hear it is supposed to be excellent in the 35 Whelen also, getting nearly 2600 or a touch more with 250's. Scotty

My goodness, that is rolling for a .358 + 225's or 250's. Looks like I am going to have to find some of this ellusive TAC.

The tests with H4895 really interest me, I have much H4895. I would burn it in my truck if I could, I have always had great luck with it.

Whats funny is I tried it in my 358 and the speed was excellent, but the darn thing wouldn't shoot decent groups. I love the powder, and wished I could have made it work, but W748 and Varget were also about the same. Scotty

My .358 Win BLR shot 47grs H4895+200gr Hornady good, 1.5" or so, 2380fps. I went all the way up to 50grs, same accuracy so I just went back to 47. My .358 Win Hawkeye shoots MOA or less with 47grs, I have never went higher because it shoots so good and should be faster with the 22" tube. I could easily be persuaded with a 225 running 2500+ with TAC though. :)

Tac will get it there for you but you need to use Magnum primers. Double tap loads it's ammo with TAC and they also use magnum primers. It will give you over 2500fps with the 225gr and 2400fps with the 250gr. That is a lot of power for a short cartridge. That is right up there and not far off the 35 Whelen but in a much more efficient cartridge. What most folks don't know is that a 358win because of the many different powders that are friendly to the cartridge, you can load a 300gr bullet and get it over 2100fps. Big medicine in a compact package.

Yup tac will do it. In fact with my 350 Rem mag it will send a 200 grain TSX at 2950 + fps!

I like the 35 caliber cartridges better a than any caliber. In fact my favorite is the 358 Norma and if I ever get to hunt the big stuff again up close, I will have one zipping a 250gr Partition into the vitals and bring instant death.
