That'll be stepping out there!

George, I have a 243win, and used that same bullet you are, SGK 85gn HPBT.

Used pixie dust(aka RL26). Chrono’d at 3350fps.

Shot 6 does with it. Several flipped over on the spot. 5 had no exit wound, but were DRT or moved less than 20 yards. The one with the exit hold made it 45 yards before collapsing.

With the 6mm REM, you’ll be really happy.

Thank You Dr. Mike! Looks like the load has potential.

I'd be inclined to give it serious consideration, for sure.

George, not what you asked but just to add a good alternative with that bullet in a 6mm. I've ran 47.5 gr of IMR 4831 with the sierra 85hpbt through a couple different 6mm's with very good results.

Stays under an inch in a 18" model 7 and averages 3080fps. If I run that bullet close to the lands it shoots tiny little clusters but I don't like using hunting loads close to the lands.

In an old 22" Rem 760 it averaged better than that staying at 3/4" and I believe in that rifle ran close to 3200. Stellar load both on paper and in the field.

I’ve used that bullet on a few white tails out of my 243. It proved to be very accurate and very effective.

Actually over the years I have had a "Pet Load" of 46.5gr IMR4831 with the 85HPBT. Three shot groups have went as small as 0.25 and five shot groups the largest group I ever shot was 0.875. I now prefer using RL19 over other powders for the loads I use in the 6mm's.
