I haven't loaded this in my 7RM, Jim. Your query may compel me to look at it, however. Here's a QL projection, if that helps.

Probably the most accurate handload I ever used in my 7mm Rem mag was suggested during a phone call to the Sierra tech guys:

65 gr RL-22
160 gr SPBT (I ended up eventually substituting Nosler, but the Sierra was indeed very good)
Federal 215 magnum primer (match grade)

This runs about 3,000-3100 fps with excellent accuracy in several different 7mm Rem mags I've tried.

NOTE! This is two grains OVER Nosler's listed max for a 160 and RL-22, but is published by Sierra and Alliant as a max level load. It did shoot well in at least four different 7mm Rem mags I tried, three Remingtons and a Ruger, with no problems. I do however recommend working carefully up for the individual rifle.

Regards, Guy

Mike and Guy,

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm thinking RL 22 would be a good powder to start with.

I'm running 68.5 grains of Norma MRP in my 7mm Rem Mag with the 150 Swift SII. Does about 3175 outta my rifle with WW brass and CCI250's. The 150's are really awesome in the 7's. I bet you'll have great luck with RL22 and 7828.

JD,
Can't go wrong with 65 RL22 and the 160 AB.
Haven't messed with the 150 though.

Dr. Mike and all. I was just reading through the quickload data and was a little surprised to see this. My accuracy load for 150 LRABs in my rifle is 62.0g IMR4350 which clocks at 3019fps in a 24 inch tube. With a COAL of 3.250, which puts me off the lands about 0.175, runs 0.6 MOA.

My question is this. Does quickload predict what the most accurate load would be for each given powder? Or is this just a fluke?

QL does not predict what will be the most accurate load. I suspect it would be possible to predict accuracy potential with a fair degree of reliability by measuring barrel time. However, I have never taken the time to do that, choosing instead to use barrel time as a rough measure of potential accuracy.

My most accurate load in the past was always 61 of H-4350 with a 162 gr. HBTSP, bullet. I had very good accuracy recently with 66 gr, of H-1000 with the same bullet. This was a sub 1/2 min load, but a little light for velocity. After 20 years in the safe my first 10 groups have all been under .800. I think a few more grains of H-1000 would really be a great load, withe the 162's, however time marches on so the 160 AB's are loaded behind 60 gr. of H-4350, .735 and I am headed out to hunt.

I figured it wasn't predictive of an accuracy load, but also didn't want to be missing out on something. Still nice to see some consistency between predicted velocities and observed velocities. I suppose someday when the safe it too full I will have to invest in QL for something to play with.

QL is worth the small price required to acquire the program.

A lot of times, with magnums...they like to be pushed pretty hard. I don't think that's a rule or anything but it does work out nicely when it works that way.
