One can only speculate, but I'd guess it was an unalarmed bear that was surprised from ambush. Still...🥴

The bear was hoarding a moose kill they had to leave and come back in daylight. I always carry a pistol while butchering moose in the field and my Marlin 45/70 Trapper or M4 Benneli with Brennke Orginal Slugs is always close by. Years ago I carried big bore revolvers but since changed to Glock 20 about 25 years ago when they introduced the G20. Since I am a terrible shot with a pistol I like the 15 rounds the G20 provides. I use 200gr and 220gr Hardcast exclusively in the bush.

I’ve seen 200 gr TMJ completely pass thru a 6’ black bear. In the neck shoulder junction and out the rear ham.

I’ve had several Glock 20s she 40s. Currently have a 20SF WITH 5” barrel. I’ve been eyeballing the new Springfield XDM 4.5 10mm. It feels very good in the hand

Yes I looked at the SIG / XDM / SW in 10mm
This is my 3rd G20 since Glock introduced the 10mm. I upgraded as the Gen models were introduced all received KKM barrels and 22 pound springs. It’s a tank the Glock 20. They did improve the recoil spring and rod but I replaced mine with a Stainless NDZ rod/Spring 22 pound since I do reload heavy hunting loads 220gr Hardcast.
