I recently bought two Schmidt&bender pmII scopes from a new friend of mine and shooting enthusiast. A desert tactical 50 cal was displayed and the wheels started turning. one platform a .260 a 300 win and a 338 lapua "plus various others" could be had for under 8500 dollars. having a short compact full length barreled bull pup design with a jewelesque trigger sealed it for me for a serious any type match rifle. no longer will I have to.wait months to have a rifle built when a new caliber is a phone call and a two minute install away. oh yeah the 300 Norma shot awesome hit the 2000 yard gong with semi consistency and was sold.

I've been looking at these a bit. You should buy it and test it out and then let me know if it lives up to the accuracy claims! Would be sweet having that short of a precision rifle system.

Jim thanks, it took a bit to get it on out there but it did work well. I just happened to stumble onto a couple of scopes that I had wanted for awhile and let it go. So two birds with one stone I guess.

Here is a picture of the two scopes Jeff got for his rifles. Way too rich for me, but maybe some day... 8) . He can give you the details.

Thanks Joel, beautiful aren't they? Let me know when you get yours. one is going on the coyote gun and one is going on the match rifle. Remember Joel, once you buy something like that you won't want to use anything less. :(

Jeff, would you go with the covert model or the full size? I noticed the covert chassis is compatible with the longer barrels but not vice versa. Might be nice to have the option to go really really short! The 16" 308 with an overall length of 26" would be pretty fun with a can screwed on the end!

I am going to.go with the bigger model, I like the 26 barrel. maybe if I was only going to use the smaller stuff I would go with the covert. trying to work a deal out with the dealer here. may be able to work something out with him as far as exposure at matches goes, we will see. going to shoot the 50 cal over the weekend before I totally commit.

I looked at them several times, but could never bring myself to spend the money. Great idea if you want a short switch barrel rifle or burn barrels up often.

I here you, but the initial 4k is not much more than I.have in my other customs with top tier actions. I am basically avoiding the gunsmithing bills when.changing barrels.

Those scopes look familiar...great looking scopes! I like the idea of a bullpup design a lot, a shorter rifle would sure be nice when hiking through the oak brush.

Awesome rifles Jeff. Those are some awesome looking machines.

Those scopes are out of this world. Can't wait to see what it looks like all mounted up on your rifle!

there are a couple of advantages to the bull pup, one being the center if gravity is further back putting more weight rearward both aiding in stability and balance while carrying it slung. I am going to run a suppressor on it and having a 26" barrel with a can on it while still being relatively short will be handy. I am just hoping I can shoot it well with the configuration it uses. should be an interesting venture either way.

The center of mass is a huge advantage for a bull pup for sure. More weight on the rear bag should help with tracking as well. Plus, if you run a suppressor the length will be reasonable. I'm sure you'll be able to shoot it well, it may take a little getting used to but I don't imagine you'll have any trouble. The biggest thing I see with a bull pup design is getting the trigger assembly to work smoothly and well. I imagine the grip and trigger will be in front of the action instead of the rear, so that will take a little work to get working as well as a Jewell trigger.

Are there any custom actions available that are specifically made for this application?

Almost every review I've read on these mentions how awesome the trigger is. It's adjustable down to a pound and while I have no first hand experience handling it, it sounds as if they paid proper attention to building a quality trigger straight from the factory.

I think the biggest disadvantage to the bull pup design would be for a lefty. I would think that they wouldn't be able to run the bolt without coming off scope.

The trigger on my buddies hti in 50 cal is the reason I started looking at the srs, it feels as crisp as my jewels. I am going to get a 300 Norma barrel through benchmark along with a 260 conversion. that should cover what I shoot. should be fun after the handing over the money.

That's an interesting concept. How are those barrels set for headspace? Still a fairly heavy rifle considering the length. What kind of action do they use? Similar to a 700? How do they account for the change in length going from 308 to 338 Lapua in magazine and bolt face or is there two different bolts and magazines? Sorry for all the questions just an interesting concept.
