Looking at changing a factory XCR synthetic stock to a HS stock with full alum. beddding.

What do people think of the stock? I have a B&C alaskan stock on my Whelen and it shoot nice. Thought I migt try a HS on the 280 Rem.

I like the HS stock on the old Rem VS SF rifles.

Thanks

I own two Remintong model 700 XCR's with the orginal stocks on them and like them fine, but if you are looking for something better, the H-S Precision stock is a great product.

I put an HS stock on my Remington model 700 Classic chambered in 300 Weatherby and it has proven to be a great upgrade. It was a true drop in deal, nothing to do but drop the action into the stock and cinch up the screws. The rifle shoots a little tighter groups with the HS stock, the recoil is slightly reduced (felt recoil, at least), and the gun is extremely stable, never changing point of impact.

On two occasions now I have hunted for days in a pouring rain alternating with snow and when I came home I took the gun out of the stock to really clean it well. Both times when I took the gun back to the range the POI had not changed at all.

Like you, the reason I chose this stock is because I really like the HS stocks that Remington used to put on the VS varmint series of rifles.

When I built a custom 7WBY on a Rem action I tried both the B C Medalist and HS stocks. I have no experience with the XCR stock. The BC stock was lighter in weight and slender but felt slippery to me.The HS felt more solid, is very stable but is heavier. It grips better for me although it is thicker in the forend. I replaced the factory recoil pad with a Limb Saver and stayed with the HS. Groups are better with the HS stock in that rifle. Hope this helps.

USUALLY the HS Precision stocks with the aluminum bedding block bolt right on, with no problems.

SOMETIMES though, they need a bit of bedding material to properly match the action to the aluminum bedding block.

I've had both. A Rem 700 Sendero that mated perfectly with the HS Precision stock, and my short-action 700V that came in the HS Precision stock. Until I bedded it, the rifle's zero would wander a bit... Once bedded it's been extremely consistent. I too like those HS Precision stocks. Reasonably light, comfortable for me, and decently strong. Not McMillan strong, but not McMillan priced either!

My Sendero came with one. Just a bit heavy and wide for what I like in a hunting stock. Also needed to skim bed the stock to get rid of the vertical stringing of groups.

I'll stick with the B&C. The price is much better for something that is roughly similar, and, B&C hasn't used 'celebrity endorsements' from Lon "I should be in jail" Horiuchi.

I have an HS on my 7 mm STW, bolted right in and I believe I gained a little accuracy. Its a nice stock gripes well but I have a scratch on the finish already and only hunted it a couple of times.

I am picking up a 30-06 Rem with a HS stock. Will move the stock to my 280 and put a wood stock I have laying around on the 06. Then re-sell the '06.

Good enough deal on the '06 that the HS should be very reasonably price in the end.

Will see if it makes any difference to the 280

I put an HS on my custom Rem 700 25-06. It bolted right on and shoots bug holes and has for 10 years.
