i have a model 48 jennings 380 auto and i am wonering what the difference is between the auto and the acp?

Auto is a shortening of the correct term Automatic Cartridge Pistol .Your Jennings is a 380 automatic cartridge pistol.

ACP came from the Automatic Colt Pistol. Lots of different manufactures have produced the automatic pistol chambered in 45 that John Browning designed in the early 1900's. All of the other automatics are called auto's.
I have a kimber 45 auto. I aslo have a Jennings 380 auto, multiple 22 auto's, 9mm auto and a 40 auto. None are ACP's.
