You guys helped me lock down that Winchester 70 Classic Stainless 7RM. I think I have decided to upgrade the factory stock and since it takes 5 months I better get on it. Thought I would go wood but that is proving more difficult than I thought.

First my plan is to cut the barrel down to 24". I know some of you won't like that but the barrel length led me to sell my first 7RM because I do a lot of stalking and walking in wooded low areas and open fields. I have shot deer from 40 uses to 300 in the same area. At 26 it just isn't right for me weight or balance.

Trying to select the stock pattern. I am thinking right now of a winchester hunter, supergrade or Remington mtn rifle(haven't confirmed it will fit a winchester).

I am becoming seduced by the mcswirly. I also really like the looks of the Mcwoody with the red pad. Has anyone seen one in person? Do they look as good as they do in pictures??

Looking for advice on pattern and if you have seen the mcwoody??

I'm really no help on the McWoody, but I will comment on barrel length. You won't be disappointed with the 7RM at 24 inches. I agree with you; my own 7RM has a 24 inch barrel, and it works quite well. I do know that you will not be disappointed with the McMillan stock.

Whichever stock pattern I decide on I am pretty sure I will go with the edge fill. I will check out the hunters edge.

I thought you bought McWoodies at McDonalds? Seems like the burgers have enough sawdust in them to qualify !!~!~

I have the McMillan hunter on RMR & really like it.
But I could not get them to respond this time and besides
they are now stated 6 months minimum to get.
I just ordered a Manners and was advised 100 days  I guess
we will see !

Blessings,
Dan

Can't speak much for the McM, but a 24" 7mm Rem Mag will do just about anything you want buddy. 175's at 2900 or better and 160's will get to 3100 pretty easily. Can't really ask for much more than that, and it is a touch easier to carry as well.

The guys mentioned the Manners, they also have been getting great press from a few of the guys around here as well.

I put a Supergrade (50/50 black/white McSwirley) on my M70 .300 WinMag. I think I am going to like it, but I haven't really messed with it enough to be able to tell fot sure... Too many new rifles coming in at first, then some personal drama has kinda kept me away from it.

One Mickey pattern I am interested in is the Winchester Express?...

I finally found some close up pictures of the mcwoody and I don't think I will go that route. Now thinking about a granite paint finish or mcswirly.

BK - how is the finish on it they say on the website they can be kind of rough with mold lines etc.? I also know what your saying about the winchester express it looks really good and it has a little cast off, the only thing is it has stippling instead of checkering which would probably better for function but curios how it would look.
