Well we're going to apply for an elk unit we haven't seen in 20 years. I burned 18 points last year in Walla Walla so I don't have any, but the rest of the guys have between 3 and six. Averaging gives us four, should be enough to draw the Chesnimus unit. Second choice will be Walla Walla spikes. The main draw for this unit is a good mix of ground our brother-in-law "the Major" can hunt.
Deer Wii see us down in the remote south east corner, if you find them they're big. We have points should be good to go.

Don,

For deer you looking in the Adel area?
If so a good place for info was the Adel store. I wonder if Chuck and Annie, they owned the store, are still alive? Always a good place for info if they liked you.

Very cool. I applying for another point this year in Oregon, but I will be hunting in Wyoming. Going to miss running around Oregon this Fall. It has grown into one of my favorite places to hunt.

Good luck in the draw.

Vince, I use to run around down there quite a bit, had friends in Paisley and summer lake. Regrettably I have not been down into Lake county in a long time. Been to the store but can't say I met or knew your friends.
We're hunting near the Idaho border, call it Jordan Valley.

Scotty good luck in Wyoming, will your son be going with you?

My first elk came out of Chesnimus in 61, that's 1961 for you wise ones. most of our elk there came from the Cold Springs area and to the north, towards Asotin. I can remember a couple of elk coming out of the Billy Meadows area. We hunted off and on their for several years. Haven't been back for many years. Good country, pretty country, but I understand now has some wolves, in the area, as does most of NE Oregon. Good luck on the draw, 4 points "should" get you a tag.

Bill, I dug out my old maps, notes indicate we were in there in 88, 89 and 92. I killed two spikes and a bear. We liked Billy meadows, cottonwood and coldsprings as well as dropping over into Joseph creek.
1961, Jeepers I thought I was old, I didn't get started until 67.
Feeling blessed growing up in the northwest, been a lot of elk camps.
Are you applying?

Don, Guy and I applied for the late season Spike Hunt in Mt Emily. I have done really well there in the last few years, and hoping to show him some elk. As you know its brutal country, but it holds a lot of elk. I also have an earlier cow tag in Western Wyoming. I am trying to settle on a unit here in Wa for a late hunt to fill in the last of the year.

Photos taken last summer, about 15 miles from home, in a spike-only unit. The bull in the bottom photo would be safe. Not legal to take. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy. Light was fading.

Guy

Amen.
Good luck to you and.Guy in the draw. I think the last time I hunted Mt. Emily was.while in school at Eastern Oregon state in La Grande.

I have 177 Fort rock as 1st choice deer. Whitehorse unit is one of my favorites but with zero points and no desire to collect points, I probably will not hunt it anytime soon. I know the area south of Jordan Valley pretty well. Would love to hunt the Oregon hill area fully. Got run out by Mud last time.

Funny thing, drive to the desert making sure to bring tire chains for all four. Amazing how greasy it can get.

baltz, the biggest buck my dad ever killed was just west of Fort Rock. Its a beautiful area.

Best of luck on your draw.
Have fun, enjoy what God created, and give thanks for the many blessings.
