What is your opinion of the pump action 22. I found a really nice older one but do not know much about them. How is accuracy and quality like?

Fotis,

Nice rifle, I always thought they were shooters.

Oh it's been 35+ years but through the eyes of a young teen the 22 pump was amazing. Watch out you rascally rabbits.

Accuracy is there. As far as quality, I thought it was pretty good. I bought it new in college, early 2000's. Probably a 2002-3 manufacture. Slide was smooth, wood was pretty, bluing was great. Looked and felt like a little Wingmaster.

I did discover, though, that I preferred the simplicity of bolt actions to the slide action. In the end, I sold the 572 to a friend who didn't have any rimfire at all. He still has it and terrorizes squirrels, rabbits, and whatnot with it on a pretty regular basis.

I carried one for many years. It took quite a few grouse and small game for me. Mine was a very accurate rifle. It was likely a mistake on my part to let it go.

I am torn up between this one and the marlin 39A. The 39A is more expensive though.

The 572 is pretty awesome... I liked mine.

39A v Fieldmaster.....that's a tough call.

Mine is probably about 25 years old... I think I bought it when I was 19 or 20. I like it a bunch, but I can't say I've ever shot it off the bench for accuracy testing. I would think the pump action would drive me to distraction trying to get a consistent position on the sandbags. It has also claimed the only scope I have ever had a detached reticle in... A Weaver 4x.

He has a nice one on the marlin 39 also!

Another one on my list. I watched one in a classified for about 3 months thinking about it. It was only $325. I have so many .22s already though.... oh well.

I owned a Remington 572 Pumpmster .22 LR years ago for several years. It was very reliable and pumped fast for follow up shots. Accuracy was good but not gilt-edged. The best that I could do with it for accuracy was about 2 inch groups at 25 yards. Five shot groups always had a flyer that ruined the group. I replaced it with a Marlin 39-A.
