Well, it appears the 'Alaskan' has morphed into the 'Guide Rifle' and all of them come with a muzzle brake.

Looking at the list of cartridges- it looks like the .300WM and the .338WM are among the list. How well would you expect a .300WM to work with a 20" barrel from a velocity aspect? I'd expect the .338Wm to be impacted less but you're still losing some steam.

The .375Rug and the RCMs do pretty well from short barrels, but they're engineered that way.

Does anybody else think a 20" braked .300WM is little more than a super loud '06? I did some work on a friend's .338WM chopped at 20' with a brake and it was like detonating dynamite on the end of broomstick. The muzzle blast was simply unbelievable.

I believe you are bang-on, hodgeman. I can't see the benefit of a 20 inch tube on a 300WM.

...saw an article a while back where they compared .300 WM/ .300 WSM/ .300 RCM & .338 WM/ .338 RCM, cutting the barrels back in 2" segments, @ 22" the .300 WM/ WSM were about even, slightly over the .300 RCM, @20" not enough difference to really make a difference, about the same w/ the .338's...

My ears are ringing just thinking of a 20" braked 300 Win Mag!
It will be a super loud 30-06.

On the .338WM I played with the muzzle flash was dazzling even in broad daylight. I'm not sure what powder my friend had loaded in those rounds but there was a lot of it burning outside the barrel.

My old 338 Win Mag had a 22" barrel with the BOSS and it wasn't that bad, and velocity's were still right in line with what a 338 would run at. Now a 20" barrel 300 Win Mag, no thanks. That is alot of bark. Not saying it might not be handy, but that seems way shorter than what a 300 Win Mag should have.

I've come to really dislike breaks. I don't need one in the field as I've never actually felt recoil when hunting. I don't like them at the bench because it's obnoxious as hell for anyone near me.

Unless I had my own spot out in the middle of nowhere, and was shooting with nobody around, I just find them.. well.. rude.

The brake is removable and comes with a weighted cap, and regular short cap. I'm thinking about the Long Range Hunter, just wish it had a 26" barrel, two stage target trigger, and was chambered in 300 RUM. Oh well.
