Is the new Winchester m1886 guns made in the US or still done in Japan?. I am in the process of having a custom 1886 made up and I am looking for a donor rifle. I want this upcomming rifle to be as close to 100% american made with 100% american made materials.

Merry x-mas to all.

From the Winchester site: http://www.winchesterguns.com/customerservice/qna/detail.asp?id=287

Historic Winchesters: Model 1885 Single Shot, Model 1886 lever action, Model 1892 lever action, Model 1895 lever action.
These "Historical Winchesters" are back in production today after being absent from the market for many decades. All were all dropped from production by the original Winchester company over half a century ago. Each of these models was reintroduced by today's Winchester Repeating Arms Company at some point beginning in the 1990s. All are in production today. All are made in our partner factory in Japan.

Thanks Doc.

I guess I will have to do a compromise which I was prepared for unless finding a genuine ´86 for donor.

Thanks again!.

G'Day Fella's,

Rigby Mauser, I have two of them Davidson, Limited Series, Winchester 1892 rifles (in .44Mag & .45Colt). They were both exceedingly well made in Japan, by Miroku!
If that "Made in Japan" thing bothers you, get it machined off and have "Made in USA" put on it to replace it?

Hope that helps

Doh!

I picked up a new 1886 in 45-70 a couple years ago that was built in Japan in the 90's. The blueing is deep and rich, and the wood is above average for a production rifle. My only complaint is the silly trigger and safety changes that have been made from the originals. There are gunsmiths that will do the modifications back to the originals, or you can do it yourself if you are handy with tools. This rifle shoots well out to 100 yards with a Williams peep sight that I installed after trying the buckhorn sights the rifle came with. It is a joy to shoot with 350 grain cast bulets traveling around 1700 fps.
