Winter kill

Interesting cause of pronghorn deaths. I guess winter kill has many faces.
I suppose they wouldn't have been eating the Yew shrubs if there was some other feed available?

When we lived in Jasper, Alberta, we were informed that the federal government restricted all plants that a homeowner might wish to plant in order to ensure that none were toxic to the elk, mule deer and black bears that shared the townsite. At the time, I was impressed. The animals don't always know to avoid some toxic plants. Interesting article.

I think it was these yew shrubs that killed 3 black bears this year in Pa . the bears were found in a church yard , if I remember right . I'll look for that article , and post up a link , if I find it .

A few here and there wouldn't be bad but the numbers lost can have a bit of an impact. I'm sure some moron will blame hunting for the decline in that local population.

I had never heard of this until the bear incident in Pa . now with the Idaho pronghorn and elk report I have to wonder how comon this is . this yew bush is bad stuff for sure , it kills quickly .
