Wow, those Speer 300gr bullets have really dried up, haven't they?

Next weekend, I'm going up to Ohio and will stop in at a gun store where I have bought them in the past. If they have any, I'll let you know.

It's amazing how bullets just "dry up" sometimes. I have so many boxes of bullets on my loading bench that it seems ridiculous. I've been in the habit of buying bullets based on availability rather than need. It does lead to an overstock issue but I never run out of bullets.

I saw a single box of those Speer 400gr JSP bullets on the shelf at a LGS in PA. I initially walked past but then reached back and grabbed them, "just in case".

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the replies,I knew it was a loong shot. Appears like Speer has not made .458 bullets for a long long time.

The 400gr Speer JSP is "The Bullet" for taking black bears IMO. I've shot a quite a few bears with all different bullets and I haven't found anything that performs better. Considering their reasonable cost and surprising accuracy, why shoot anything else? Assuming that you can find a few. :>)

Otter,
I was in a shop today that had the 400 gr Speers. Couple boxes I think.
PM me if you want me to grab them.

I did not have any luck up in Ohio. However, I did email Speer to ask if they had stopped making them. They reported that the.458 bullets had not been discontinued, but that they are considered a specialty bullet, and so they only tool up to make them every so often.
