10mm with a 200gr JHP. Big bullet with plenty of horsepower. You can easy use a Glock 29 10mm for CCW. It holds 10+1 or can take the G20 15 round mags. I put the 40s up and carry a G29 for about 6 months now. Guess my second choice is the 40 S&W with 180gr JHPs.

You certainly know how to open a can of worms with this subject.
I was talking with a LEO friend the other day....he said that in a discussion with a ParaMedic a few nights earlier, he was told that a victim had been shot with Hornady's Critical Defense 9mm. Entry was normal, but the exit wound was massive, and the spent round was found feet away from the body.
Sometimes it is not the 'size' of the projectile, but the designed function that will make it close to the perfect round.
And I have 2 boxes of them in 45Colt and 357Mag.
Interesting enough is Hornady is using thier FTX bullet in these loads. The same bullet as in their LeveRevolution ammo, just with the tip shortened.
I'm gonna have to do a jug test on these rounds.

I have thought about trying some of those Hornady CDs also. It would be an interesting bullet for the jug test. The Speer 180 Gold Dots in the 10mm really impressed me. Gotta find the pic of the recovered bullet.

Here is the 180gr Gold Dot out of the G20 at 1250ish. Found it in the third jug shot from about 5 yards.

I love the 357 mag with 125 gr JHP.
That said my favorite for carry is the Tangfoglio 10mm Auto.
135 Nosler JHP at 1500 fps is deadly although a bit hard kicking for very fast re-acquisition of targets.

I compromised between caliber and gun size with the .40 S&W. A .40 caliber, 165 gr JHP at 1100 fps will, most likely, settle any augument that I get into.

Except for a CNS shot - never expect a one-shot drop from a typical defensive handgun. Simply not enough power on tap to make it happen reliably.
Measured in foot-pounds of energy, the standard 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP are remarkably similar.
After investigating many shootings over the years, a few things stand out about handgun effectiveness:
1. Brain shots work really well, even with an underpowered cartridge.
1A. Shot placement is key.
1B. More holes are better. Creates more leakage, more damage.
2. Any expanding bullet creates a huge amount more damage than a typical non-expanding bullet.
3. More power, such as from a .44 mag, creates far more damage to the human body than a less powerful firearm, like a .380, .32 or a .38 special.

The Hornady Critical Defense is a phenomenal round. I performed the bullet test with jugs and planned to post but I lost the slug . The 45 cal. 185 grain bullet weighted 180 grains and had great expansion. I was very impressed. I believe that it exited the side of the third jug at about 10 yards from my Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II.

I use the 165 Cal Critical Defense 40S&W in a revolver (the Pit Bull). MV is 1055 fps in a 3 inch barrel.
